volkswagen's next-generation polo supermini will be getting a gti performance variant, much like the current model as well as its larger vw golf sibling. As expected, vw polo gti will be getting the german carmaker’s economical 1.4l forced induction engine, which uses both a supercharger and a turbocharger to boost power but keep fuel consumption and dead spots in the torque range to a minimum. Applied in the polo gti, the 1.4l mill should be producing almost 180hp (134kw) and around 111lb-ft (150nm) of torque.

The car will also be available with a quick-shifting 7-speed dsg dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual for those who like to switch their own cogs. With the dsg, the polo gti should be capable of hitting 60mph in the high 6-second range and go on to a top speed of around 140mph, reports autoexpress.

The vw polo gti will also get a number of exterior features to distinguish it from regular polo models. This includes the black and red honeycomb grille seen on the golf gti, an assortment of gti badges, larger wheel arches and handsome alloy wheels. There will also be larger air intakes up front to feed the 1.4l engine, and a bodykit along with a small roof spoiler that will help the compact hatch maintain a sporty look from any angle.

Inside, sportiness will continue to be a key theme to the car thanks to a pair of bucket seats, aluminum pedals and higher quality interior materials than other vw models. Expect to see the car launch several months after the introduction of the standard 2010 polo in the middle of next year.

sarà da vedere con che motori la presenteranno...soprattutto se terranno i tre cilindri benzina e diesel, perché temo di sì...il nuovo 1.6 avrà potenze dai 90 cv, e un 1.6 da 75 non avrebbe mercato. per il momento non vedo alternative al 1.4 tdi alla base gamma...

per i benzina idem: non mi sembra siano in programma nuovi motori, a parte l'introduzione del 1.4 tsi...quindi resterà anche il solito 1.2 12v.

Petrol engines in the new 2009 Polo include a 1.2 with 60bhp and 70bhp outputs, a 1.4 with 85bhp, 1.2 TSI with 105bhp and a 170bhp 1.4 TSI. The diesel line-up features that Bluemotion II 1.2 and a trio of 1.6s with 75bhp, 90bhp and 105bhp. Smaller engines get five-speed manuals, bigger hitters get seven-cog DSG double-clutch transmissions.

sembrerebbero esserci un turbo benz 1.2 che manda in pensione il 1.6 da 105 cv, e due nuovi turbodiesel common rail 1.2 e 1.6. resta però da capire che senso -e che mercato- abbia un 1.6 da 75 cv quando c'è un 1.2 con la stessa potenza e che consuma pure di meno...
