Fatto sta che un alleanza nel segmento C secondo me ci vorrebbe, con ford o psa o altri ma se vuoi competere con golf per batterla ti devi unire a qualcuno per poter investire cifre considerevoli e offrire prodotti al top e non prodotti che sul mercato europeo siano dei comprimari come bravo.

TURIN, Italy, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Fiat (FIA.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) is talking with German automaker Daimler (DAIGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) about everything, not just engines, the Italian car maker's chief executive, Sergio Marchionne, said on Tuesday.

Speculation has swirled that Daimler could seek a partner to work on the next generation of Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class compact cars.

"We're not just talking with Daimler about engines, we're talking about everything," Marchionne told reporters on the margins of a conference.

He gave no details about the discussions.

Fiat, Europe's fifth-biggest car maker, said last month it was in contact with Daimler unit Mercedes-Benz about a possible alliance. Fiat has had similar contacts with other automakers.

Fiat signed a 2.4 billion euro ($3.49 billion) accord with Daimler in June to supply truck engines as part of a wider strategic agreement.

Marchionne also said he expects U.S. markets to recover quickly from the subprime mortgage crisis. The impact should be over by the end of the first quarter of 2008, he said.

Asked about market rumours that he could take over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Swiss bank UBS (UBSN.VX: Quote, Profile, Research), Marchionne said the post was incompatible with his role running Fiat. He is a UBS board member.

Shares in Fiat closed down 1.2 percent at 21.39 euros as the DJ Stoxx auto index (.SXAP: Quote, Profile, Research) ended up 0.19 percent.

"The stock is still being weighed by the data on October new car sales," a trader said. Fiat's new car sales in Italy rose 7 percent last month, trailing an overall increase. (Reporting by Gianni Montani and Giancarlo Navach, writing by Ian Simpson; editing by John Wallace)

Officials at Fiat and Daimler have been in negotiations since the middle of the year over a possible deal to co-develop several new models for their respective Alfa Romeo and Mercedes-Benz brands. Most are predicting the two carmakers to sign a deal to cross-share engine technologies but according to Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne everything is on the table.

“We’re not just talking with Daimler about engines, we’re talking about everything,” Marchionne revealed to reporters from Reuters this week. Daimler was first rumoured to be working with Fiat to develop a new platform for the next-gen A and B-class models, now there’s talk of a flagship Alfa Romeo sedan and new SUV model as well. Earlier this month Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche visited a Fiat factory in Cassino, Italy, where the Bravo hatchback is built.

Daimler is also in talks with BMW but the signing of a $3.5 billion deal with Fiat for the supply of truck engines earlier this year means the two carmakers are already good bedfellows.

marchionne ha dichiarato che con il gruppo Daimler si sta parlando non solo di motori,ma un po' di tutto...a questo punto uno si chiede...e se il partner per lo sbarco in usa,fosse un colosso come daimler.???...sinergie tecnologiche tra gruppo daimler e gruppo fiat...travasi di tecnologia,più aiutini vari e pianali in cambio da jaguar/landrover/tata?...
