Like in the year before, the dynamic racing car provided Andy Priaulx of BMW Team UK with a further drivers’ championship title while BMW was once more able to defend the manufacturers championship.

The BMW 320si WTCC was developed by BMW Motorsport in Munich using the same template as the series model of the same name. It took just nine months to create a new car that was competitive right from the start. In the very first WTCC event of the 2006 season in Monza, Andy Priaulx clinched pole position and victory in round one. Ten more triumphs followed over the course of the year.

This car is the youngest offspring of the successful BMW 3 Series that has been celebrating title glory in international touring car racing for several decades. BMW has now won 24 European titles. Every World Championship title to date has gone to Munich.

The 280 bhp BMW 320si WTCC is the racing version of the special model BMW 320si. The motorsport version of the BMW 320si is driven by a powerful 2-litre four-cylinder in-line engine. A race kit can be purchased by BMW customer teams aroudn the globe. The 320si not only competes in the FIA WTCC, but in numerous national championships as well.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen says, “Touring cars without BMW is unthinkable – and BMW is equally unthinkable without touring cars. This is what made the brand grow, and we will stick to this tradition. Apart from works support we have always been keen to keep racing affordable for our customers and at the same time offer a high-performance package. This tradition is now continued by the racing version of the new BMW 3 Series. I am sure that this model will write further chapters of BMW’s successful history.“
