Secondo i soliti ben informati, sarà la Star del Salone di Detroit 2005 e le prime anticipazioni realizzate a computer grafico sembrano confermare come in Porsche il progetto sia ormai entrato nel vivo della fase di collaudo.

Non parliamo della nuova versione dell’eterna 911, ma della nuova Boxster, una vettura molto attesa dagli appassionati del genere spider e che, anche nella sua nuova edizione, non mancherà di stupire.

Porsche 987…

Il nome in codice della vettura, 987, sembrerebbe indicare una certa continuità tra modelli, visto che l’attuale versione è siglata 986, in realtà non è così, perchè della vecchia Boxster rimarrà ben poco.

Le carrozzerie, innanzitutto, saranno due e non una: una versione coupè, infatti, andrà ad affiancare la classica spider, della quale conserverà il profilo dell’anteriore e della coda, mentre per quanto concerne il disegno del montante posteriore è praticamente sicuro un richiamo stilistico all’eterna 911.

Motore centrale

Lo schema tecnico della vettura sarà simile e non sposerà, come lascerebbero presupporre le scelte stilistiche, quanto proposto dalla sorella maggiore: il propulsore, infatti, rimarrà posizionato centralmente, con la conseguente impossibilità di integrare una seconda fila di sedili.

Due posti secchi e tanto spazio per i bagagli

Grande attenzione è stata dedicata alla funzionalità, visto che questa configurazione strutturale consentirà, ad entrambe le versioni, di offrire un vano bagagli tutto sommato capiente.

Certo, chi compra un coupè o una spider di questo genere, potrebbe anche essere disposto a rinunciare ad un po’ di spazio per le valige, ma vista la fascia di prezzo nella quale si andrebbe a posizionare, questo particolare non è poi da sottovalutare.

Da 43.000 euro!

Si vocifera, infatti, che la versione entry-level verrà posizionata a quota 43.000 euro, guarda caso, nella stessa fascia di mercato di vetture “simili”, come Audi TT 3.2 V6 DSG Quattro, Nissan 350Z, Mercedes SLK o BMW Z4…

Da 240 a 280 CV

Concorrenza o meno, la Boxster potrà giocare sull’indiscutibile fascino del marchio Porsche e su contenuti tecnici di prim’ordine.

I propulsori, infatti, dovrebbero rimanere sostanzialmente gli stessi, anche se rivisti e corretti in alcuni particolari: si parla di una potenza pari a 240 CV per il 2.7 litri e 280 per il 3.2 litri.

Due le tipologie di cambio disponibili: al classico manuale a sei rapporti, infatti, verrà affiancata una nuova versione del Tiptronic dotata di 6 rapporti e la possibilità di scegliere a piacimento tra una soluzione completamente automatica o una sequenziale. Non è da escludere il tecnologico e velocissimo cambio DSG che potrebbe essere messo a disposizione dal Gruppo VW.

Sia la 987(Boxster 2005) che la 997(911 2004) sono dei pesanti restyling dei modelli originali e non modelli completamente nuovi.....le vere completamente inedite Boxster e 911 le vedremo nel 2008/9.......

Spy Shot: Porsche Boxster

The next-generation Porsche Boxster range, due for launch late this year, will be offered with both coupe and roadster bodystyles, the former taking on the Audi TT, Nissan 350Z and so on. Pictured here is the coupe, undergoing final testing at Germany's Nurburgring circuit.

No big changes to underpinnings: The basic Boxster recipe - for both coupe and soft-top models - will remain relatively unchanged, as the car is still a class-leader in terms of driving dynamics, handling and refinement.

Tweaks: It will be a little wider, though, with larger bumpers and wheels (17- or 18-inch), and the styling will be tweaked: wider wheel arches, bumpers and side air intakes, a flatter rear deck and an upgraded cabin, with the centre console-mounted multimedia system as used in the Cayenne, more adjustable seats, restyled instruments and dials plus upgraded materials and fabrics.

Lamps: The oval headlights and taillights will undergo minor revisions too, and the rear end will incorporate a larger retractable spoiler.

300bhp rumours: Porsche is keen to differentiate the Boxster further from the 911 range, so it will retain its 2.7-litre engine (240bhp, or 280bhp in S versions), though a 3.4-litre, 300bhp variant has been rumoured.

Boxster's 'boxes: Six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions will be offered, the latter with a double-clutch system similar to Audi's Direct Shift Gearbox. Prices for the new Boxster range are expected to start from under £30,000, with the advent of this entry-level Coupe.

These are the first pictures of the new Porsche Boxster shorn of its disguise, pictured here virtually as it will look when it lands in showrooms in under a year.

The popular mid-engine roadster has been extensively reworked for 2005 with a mass of changes that promise to make the second-generation model every bit as impressive as the original was at launch back in 1996.

Codenamed 987, Porsche’s new entry-level model will be built in roadster and coupé guises next time around.

The roadster will be the first of the new Boxster models to appear with a planned debut at the Detroit Motor Show next January. The coupe won’t be unveiled until the Frankfurt show in September 2005 and Autocar sources describe it as being more sporting than its open-top sibling.

Mirroring the 911’s evolutionary redesign, the Boxster exterior is subtly reworked with oval headlights and new tail lamps along with revised bodywork that provides the car with a discreetly more muscular appearance.

Enlarged front cooling ducts feed the front-mounted radiator, while the mid-mounted engine is cooled by enlarged air ducts extending further down the side of the body

featuring four louvres.

New door handles are now pull-out units rather than today’s ‘flap’ arrangements and the pop-up rear spoiler is slightly wider for extra downforce at speeds above 75mph – the point at which it extends from the rear bumper.

Power for the new Boxster roadster and coupé will come from the choice of two lightly reworked horizontally opposed engines: the existing 2.7-litre and 3.2-litre units both gaining around 10bhp, together with a considerable boost in low-end torque.

A six-speed manual ’box will be standard, but buyers can pick a new six-speed Tiptronic operated by steering-wheel buttons or a push/pull mechanism. The DSG-style dual-clutch unit in this autumn’s new 911 will be available later in the Boxster’s life.

Also new are the tasty 18-inch alloys spied on this prototype. To reduce the unsprung weight, Porsche has developed a new lightweight design with two cut-outs in each of the five spokes.
