Electric Indica is highlight of Tata stand

Brand new Tata shows off Indian firms impressive vision of the future.

Don’t be fooled by the plug-in logos draped over Tata’s latest offering. The Indian firm’s new Indica EV may have made its world debut at Bologna today, but the new all-electric hatchback can’t be plugged straight into the wall.

Instead, the newcomer’s lithium ion battery will have a chip, which owners can remove and charge using an adaptor. The car is expected to have a 220km range and take up to six hours to charge. The maker says it’s still testing the technology, however, ahead of its European launch next summer. Prices still haven’t been decided.

Meanwhile, the firm says its Nano city car goes into production in January, but won’t go on sale in the UK until at least 2011.
