In quel caso sottointendevo che sarebbe necessario realizzare un modello ex-novo come lo è stato l'Aura rispetto alla Vectra; comunqe erano tre esempi buttati lì, senza nemmeno pensarci tanto, giusto per dare un'idea di cosa potrebbe succedere.

Saturn deal is called a new business model

Detroit businessman Roger Penske's move to acquire General Motors' troubled Saturn brand and dealer network could be pioneering -- the start of a new strategy for selling cars and trucks in the United States, experts said Friday.

On Friday, GM announced a tentative deal for Penske Automotive Group to purchase Saturn, a transaction that the companies said should be finalized this fall.

The Detroit automaker will continue to assemble Saturn vehicles for two years, and Penske is talking with other manufacturers about building vehicles that the dealer network would sell.

Jack Nerad of Kelley Blue Book heralded the Penske-Saturn deal as "one of the most significant developments in a month that has been full of significant developments."

"The proposed acquisition marks the beginning of a new business model in this industry," he wrote, "a model in which the distribution side of the business controls the brand, and manufacturing is conducted by one or more sub-contractors."

Penske Group seeks new vehicles for Saturn dealers

Penske Automotive Group is in talks with several automakers about providing new vehicles to the Saturn dealer network.

Penske's deal with General Motors, which has not yet been finalized, provides him with GM-made vehicles for two years.

"We have been in discussions during this diligence period with a number of manufacturers on a worldwide basis," Penske told reporters Friday. "We would expect to have a lineup going forward, which would be manufactured by a worldwide partner."

He expects that eventually the new vehicles could be built in the United States if sales demand it.

Insomma vorrebbero rivoltare il concetto del modello di business automobilistico attuale. Il marchio diventa proprietà della distribuzione, che poi trova caso per caso il costruttore al quale far fare le auto.

Considerando le sovraccapacità produttive dei grandi costruttori. potrebbe non essere una scemenza totale.... bisogna vedere però se la clientela se la beve.

Se non ricordo male è la stessa cosa che venne tentata anni fa con la Aro 4x4. Ma all'epoca, a causa della scarsa affidabilità e dei pessimi assemblaggi, la cosa fallì.

Era fissato per ieri l'incontro in cui doveva essere siglata definitivamente la cessione di Saturn al gruppo Penske.

Ma proprio ieri l'acquirente ha comunicato di essersi ritirato dalla trattativa.

A quanto pare, la motivazione addotta da Penske è stata l'impossibilità di trovare un altro produttore di auto che avrebbe fornito le vetture da vendere con marchio Saturn dopo il primo periodo di transizione, durante il quale Penske avrebbe venduto su licenza 3 degli attuali modelli della gamma Saturn.

Col ritiro dell'ormai sicuro acquirente è probabile che il marchio Saturn venga dismesso definitivamente, come sta già accadendo con quello Pontiac. Assai improbabile che emerga all'ultimo momento un nuovo acquirente per il marchio.

Breaking: GM, Penske part ways on Saturn deal

General Motors and Roger Penske have reportedly terminated a deal for the Saturn brand. Penske agreed to purchase the Saturn brand from General Motors earlier this year – essentially saving the brand from extinction – but negotiations fell apart after Penske couldn’t find and automaker to supply vehicles for the Saturn brand.

The news of the contract termination throws into doubt the future of the Saturn brand. Penske’s purchase would have saved the brand from certain demise, but now it looks as though Saturn will follow Pontiac into the history books.

“We will be working closely with our dealers to ensure Saturn customers are cared for as we transition them to other GM dealers in the months ahead,” GM CEO Fritz Henderson said in a statement released by the automaker.

It remains possible that a new bidder could save the Saturn brand in the eleventh hour, but that scenario is looking highly unlikely at this point. With the global auto market still struggle with record-low sales, not many companies are willing to take a risk on an auto venture, as shown by the difficult sale of Ford’s Volvo brand.

l'accordo sarebbe stato nel venbdere le samsung, ma che necessitavano di modifiche per ientrare nelle norme Usa. Se GM non garantiva la copertura di modellli nel lasso temporale, vien da se che l'operazione nasceva bislacca

inoltre è istinto di autoconservazione da parte della PENSKE . Era un operazione ad alto rischio dato che gli ultimi modelli della saturn non erano apprezzati dalla clientela .

Se sei abituato a gabinetti e pure malfatti, quando ti offrono roba di maggior pregio dovrebbe andarti meglio. Invece...

Diciamo che a farla molto positiva in pochissimi ne sentiranno la mancanza nel caso in cui sparisse...
