Is MINI preparing more variations to its range? A report suggests as much. It says by 2011 at least two more MINI types will be roaming the streets, both of which are to be based on the outgoing R57 platform. This is in addition to two other rumoured MINIs, the R60 Countryman and something called the Spacebox.

The first of the former models is the MINI Speedster which is said to be getting ready for a Frankfurt Motor Show reveal. The two-seater will either be an actual concept or an internal design mule.

Second on the upcoming list is a coupe which is reportedly called the Broadspeed Coupe. Broadspeed is a name that was used in the 1960s by a few Mini Coopers which campaigned in racing meets with some success. The racing team responsible for their development also made a road-going version of the car which featured a sleek fastback shape and was nicknamed the Mini Aston.

Nothing is set in concrete but it is understood that Broadspeed is not the final chosen name and also that the Speedster will debut first, followed by the coupe. The car will become the most hard core MINI ever when fitted with a John Cooper Works engine and kit.

This Wednesday, on August 26, the MINI brand will turn 50 and to celebrate the occasion the British automaker will reveal the first photos a two-seater coupe concept car based on the hatchback model ahead of a planned debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Carscoop's inside sources, the most distinctive styling features of the coupe variant of the MINI are the steep windshield and of course the new roof.

Our source told us that the concept car will be based on the John Cooper Works Mini using the same 1.6-liter twin-turbocharged four-pot that pumps out 211 horsepower and a maximum torque of up to 280Nm or 207 lb-ft with overboost deployed.

However, the coupe promises to be quicker and even more capable than the three-door JCW Mini as it is lighter due in large part to the weight saving aluminum roof and the elimination of the rear seats.

According to our insider, the Coupe concept will be joined in Frankfurt by the long-anticipated Roadster model. What our source didn't reveal is when or if these two sporty versions of the Mini will make it into production.

And yes, the photo above is a photoshop based on an older MINI concept car that we drew up a couple of months ago when the first rumors broke about the Roadster model.

La Roadster è bella, ma non vale, è una Cabrio con i posti posteriori chiusi. Questa fa RIBREZZO a dir poco.

Poi, IMHO, la mini col Facelift è peggiorata non poco, il nuovo paraurti anteriore è tremendo.

a parte il chiaro problema del terzo volume unito allo sbalzo posteriore minimo... povvero il montante c non si deve MAI chiudere prima che finisca la ruota posteriore... è terribbile anche il portellone, probbailmente con uno spoiler incorporato nella lamiera cambierebbe qualcosa, non di molto, ma sarebbe un inizio...

e poi,sinceramente,ma se ne sentiva il bisogno? okay la speedster, ma qui vogliono proporci lamini in tutte le salse possibili, tra poco riesumeranno anhce la Riley Elf
