There is no Alfa Romeo of the future, or Alfa Romeo of the present, or Alfa Romeo of the past like in Christmas Carol. There is the Alfa Romeo. And if we want to witness it making masterpieces like the 33, Junior must sell

If the 33 is a masterpiece, then Alfa Romeo's future is screwed. It's neither special in any way, technically advanced, nor pretty (in my opinion). 4C, Giulia and Stelvio were much more ambitious projects, developed by a much smaller company. They also raised the brand's reputation, and image, which is already getting hurt by the Tonale, and will be ruined further by Junior.

1. I dont think that Alfa has got any bigger than it was in 2012.

2. Giulia and Stelvio were ambitious, yes. But they were meant to be mass production models. And they definitely didnt sell as expected, so they should be considered failed. Junior may not be so ambitious and special (no carbon fiber anti-roll) but if it sells as expected, it will have reached its target as a mass production model, and will thus be succesful.

Dont get me wrong, I consider Giulia a future classic. But if we want to be fair and square, it failed

1. They grew up a lot, as the brand started selling in other significant markets outside of Europe. 4C, Giulia and Stelvio were a massive step above the models developed under Fiat.

2. The problem weren't the products itself, but poor post sales services, lack of adequate marketing, late updates, and other issues that didn't valorize the products enough.

If you take a look at the sales of Giulia & Stelvio, you can see how the numbers were steadily rising month by month under Marchionne's management, when there was serious work going on to "revive" the brand.

After Marchionne stepping down the CEO role, the sales instantly slipped the next month, and they never recovered again.

1. Alfa Romeo sold 100,000 cars in 2012, now it sells only 70,000. Yes, it has presence outside Europe now, but it is very small

2. The products were part of the problem. The engine range was ridiculous (only 2 engines for the non-QV models - announcements were made again and again for mild hybrid versions, plug-in hybrid versions, 6-cylinder engines, and nothing ever came), and let's not forget the criminal decision to not launch a SW version for Giulia. And make no mistake all the aforementioned decisions were taken by Marchionne

1. By that logic, Alfa Romeo is more successful than Ferrari, because they sell more cars. Giulia and Stelvio are another world compared to Giulietta and Mito, their sales can't be compared. On the other hand, you can compared Giulia's & Stelvio's sales before and after Marchionne stepped down, to see how a bad management has its effects on sales.

2. 2 petrol options+ many diesel options is not bad. Last Marchionne's industrial plan was focused on hybrid powerplants and EVs, but sadly he passed too soon to make it happen.

The SW version wasn't made because of structural reasons.
