Risposta semplice: è spazio extra ricavato per la testa dei collaudatori.

Le portiere della twingo, evidentemente, non sono abbastanza alte per coprire l'intera altezza dell'abitacolo: infatti Smart ha un pavimento interno rialzato e sedili alti da terra.

Ci sono anche i due tubi esterni di protezione che fanno fa roll bar per evitare che la sporgenza che va oltre l'intelaiatura delle fiancate si schiacci in caso di ribaltamento.

in effetti una cosa che mi ha stupito dell'attuale twingo, e che ne ha decretato da parte mia il non acquisto, è quanto basso sia il tetto. Sono 1.79 e i miei capelli sfioravano la tappezzeria!

Sharing platform with next-gen Renault Twingo

Today we bring another batch of spy photos depicting a 2014 Smart ForTwo which will share its underpinnings with the next-gen Renault Twingo.

It feels like we have been seeing spy pics of the next ForTwo / Twingo since forever and hopefully this will soon end with the unveiling of both cars. Smart’s version is said to take many styling cues from the 2011 ForVision concept while the Twingo's looks have already been previewed by Renault with their TwinRun and Twin'Z concepts.

The Smart ForTwo will be a two-door model but a ForTwo+2 (aka ForFour) is also in the pipeline. The next-gen Renault Twingo has already been confirmed to be available with only a five-door configuration. Both of them will sit on a rear-wheel drive platform and get a range of small and efficient engines. The ForTwo is also rumored to spawn an electric variant with an 87 bhp (65 kW) electric motor. The ForFour is likely to come with a turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine offered with 84 bhp (63 kW) and 104 bhp (77 kW).

Powering the two-seat ForTwo will be an all-new direct-injection, three-cylinder, 0.9-liter gasoline engine developed by Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with Renault which will produce 85 bhp (63 kW) when naturally-aspirated and 105 bhp (78 kW) when turbocharged. An optional dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic gearbox will be available, while a diesel engine is not being considered at this moment.

Also in the pipeline is a ForTwo e-Drive model which will get an electric motor rated at 90 bhp (67 kW) working together with a lithium-ion battery pack.
