Remember when Lexus was synonymous with cushy, spongy rides that were anything but performance oriented? That all seems a distant memory since Toyota's luxury division set its sights on the likes of BMW with the IS-F, even more so with the release of the exclusive LFA supercar. But according to the latest, Lexus ain't done yet.

Back in October when we were in Miami test driving the LFA, we brought you a report on the possibility of a stripped-down, competition-focused version. Now it appears that this track edition is upon us.

Apparently called the Nürburgring edition – in reference to the legendary German road course where the competition prototypes that led to the production LFA cut their proverbial teeth – this extra-special LFA will benefit from a large, fixed rear wing, a splitter up front, a stiffer (and more adjustable) suspension, lightweight alloys coated in track rubber and an extra 10 horsepower (likely resulting from a revised exhaust system).

Aside from the four paint options – which reportedly include glossy black, matte black, orange, and an unknown fourth color – that's about all we've got for now, but if your Japanese is up to snuff and you can extrapolate more from the source report, let us know in the Comments below.

A distanza di dodici mesi, il cerchio si chiude.Lexus torna a correre la 24 ore del Nurburgring(13-16 maggio 2010) con la LFA, dopo una prima partecipazione pensata per rispettare oneri commerciali piuttosto che per placare la reale sete di competizioni. Tant’è. Il costruttore giapponese ha affidato la sua sportiva al preparatore ufficiale Gazoo, che ne ha messo a punto il pacchetto aerodinamico e installato l’opportuna dotazione di serie. Nessuna modifica al propulsore V10 da 560 cavalli, che assicura - già in versione “stock” - uno spunto 0-100 km/h in 3.7 secondi ed una velocità massima di 325 km/h.

Tiene saldo il timone del team Hiromu Naruse, capo-collaudatore dell’intero gruppo Toyota, a cui sono subordinate due squadre composte da quattro piloti giapponesi e tre tedeschi, fra cui il pluri-decorato Armin Hahne due volte vincitore della 24 Ore di Spa.

questa stessa auto ieri ha avuto un brutto frontale con un Sr.3 . Il collaudatore - famosissimo in Toyota - è deceduto, gli occupanti del Sr.3 sono gravissimi.

Dalle foto sembrava meno grave (non posso metterle perchè mi è morto il pc .. non mi riconosce il disco fisso)

Non sembrava così grave, purtroppo invece confermano il morto e i due feriti gravi

Crash resulting in the most unfortunate fatality occurred at the Lexus LF-a Nurburgring Edition Test drive. The Toyota supercar met with this unfortunate end just a few kilometers from the Nurburgring test track taking along with the toll on the driver’s life. With initial reports not disclosing the identity of the driver a German Magazine has now revealed that the driver was none other than Hiromu Naruse the chief test driver of Toyota. The magazines report matches with the official declaration by Toyota that the driver was a 67 year individual. The Toyota had crashed into another car that being a BMW 3 Series Sedan whose driver and passenger is also in serious condition as of now.

Initial reports indicate that the Toyota with Naruse at its wheels was taking a high speed turn and in the process crossed into the opposing lane. The issue is being investigated by the police department.

Naruse had on May 26 shared his experience about him racing the LFA in Nardo, Italy. He had mentioned that the race was so high pressure one that he had doubted his return to Japan while still breathing. It was a test of durability of the car he had mentioned. The drive involved running the car at 200 mph for a long period in the dark with no lights on the track. The effect of a tire burst would have been enough he had mentioned to finish him and the car alike. That is now history for he had come out making the LFA what it is now in that round. These words from him now seem very predictive.

People friends and families involved in this tragic incident have our support in these times of grief.

E' successo fuori dal ring, al momento di immettersi sulla strada statale.
