Non credo alzino la C30, sarebbe troppo vicina alla V40...

Non credo nemmeno che creino qualcosa sui 450 cm, sarebbe uguale alla XC60...

Quindi o stanno sotto la V40 di 20 cm (ovvero 420 cm) oppure semplicemente rialzano ancora un po' la V40 e ne fanno una SUV...

Da piccolo mi vedevo su un'Alfa cattiva, prestante e tagliente. Da grande il findus-style mi ha infranto i sogni d'infanzia.  -  Cit. 22/06/2012 (MiTo ndr)

Volvo would like to build a bespoke XC40 compact SUV, but any such model is up to five years away, say company sources, becuase there is no suitable platofrm available.The Chinese-owned company has designed a bespoke platform, known as the SPA (Scaleable Platform Architecture), which is due to be rolled out late next year under the replacement for the XC90. However, the smallest model based on the SPA is likely to be the next-gen S60.

Volvo insiders say an XC40 would “fit the brand and sell in numbers”. In recent times, the company’s best-selling models have been the XC90 andXC60. With downsizing trends across the world, and the success of models such as the Audi Q3 and Range Rover Evoque, the absence of an XC40 is a significant gap in Volvo’s line-up. Future Cross Country models will simply be rugged versions of existing road cars, whereas XC models will be bespoke SUVs.

More details have also emerged about the engineering behind the SPA. It is constructed in five sections, with the section roughly between the centre of the front wheels and the A-pillars — which carries the engine and transmission — being the same size on all models underpinned by the platform.

Volvo sources confirmed that the SPA will be able to accommodate both mechanical four-wheel drive and electrically driven rear axles for hybrid versions. The SPA will only take Volvo’s all-new four-cylinder engines.

Autocar has also learned that Volvo and its owner Geely are preparing to launch a mid-market brand. Geely is positioned as the budget brand and Volvo the global premium nameplate. As yet it is unclear whether the mid-market brand will be for China only or offered globally.

Molto probabile anche la XC40

Volvo has made a small SUV its top priority once it has finished renewing its existing ranges.“A small SUV is very high on our wish list,” Volvo president and CEO Håkan Samuelsson confirmed to Autocar. “There is a clear trend towards downsizing and we will provide customers with an SUV that is small in stature but remains premium in nature.”

The new car is likely to be called XC40 and will be based on the forthcoming Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform being developed in conjunction with Volvo’s Chinese owners, Geely.

However, Samuelsson has ruled out for now any attempt to further diversify Volvo’s ranges in his quest to increase sales from about 450,000 units at present to 800,000 by the end of the decade.

“In four years’ time, the new XC90 will be the oldest car we make, but we see the priority as replacing our bread and butter models rather than breaking new ground,” he said.

This means that by 2020 Volvo will have three central ranges, badged 40, 60 and 90, all of which will be offered in saloon, estate and SUV form.

“The job for now is to become bigger and more profitable doing what we already do but doing it much better and charging more for it,” said Samuelsson. “Only then can we start looking at coupés and convertibles.” He also confirmed that there are no current plans to replace the C30 small hatchback.

In the meantime, Volvo remains committed to its four-cylinder future, even though the strategy has met with some resistance in the crucial but V8-friendly US market.

“The question is how long is it [the V8] going to last once 
cars have to produce an average of 95g/km?” he said. “If you want 400bhp, we can give you 400bhp but no one needs it all the time so we provide the power using batteries and meet emissions targets with plug-in hybrids.

"That’s why we have changed our strategy and market them as twin-engine cars because that is effectively what we’re providing.”

Quindi non si sà ancora nulla della XC40..

Il basso gamma Volvo è sempre stato un problema. E' sempre stata come BMW (Serie 3 - 5- 6 -7). Prima ha avuto Renault, poi Mitsubishi, poi Ford. Ora non ha a chi rivolgersi ed i tempi di una nuova piattaforma secondo i crismi SPA sono lunghi.

Il basso gamma Volvo è sempre stato un problema. E' sempre stata come BMW (Serie 3 - 5- 6 -7). Prima ha avuto Renault, poi Mitsubishi, poi Ford. Ora non ha a chi rivolgersi ed i tempi di una nuova piattaforma secondo i crismi SPA sono lunghi.

Il pianale della v40 non andrebbe bene ?
