Messaggi Raccomandati:

Details and photos have emerged about RMR's Hyundai Genesis PM580 race car.

Built by Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), the PM580 will compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 27th. Looking like a Le Mans prototype, it features a tubular frame chassis, a carbon fiber body, and a Brembo braking system.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 4.1-liter V6 engine with up to 750 hp (559 kW / 760 PS). Connected to a Weismann semi-automatic AWD transmission, power is channeled to the ground via an active center differential. It allows for a "10-100 percent torque split to the front wheels" which is important "because the course changes from asphalt to dirt multiple times."

If everything goes according to plan, Rhys Millen will complete the 12.42 mile (20 km) course in less than 10 minutes.

Press Release

•Hyundai unveiled its new RMR Genesis PM580 racecar.

•Rhys Millen will campaign the car at Pikes Peak on June 27.

•The RMR Genesis PM580 is capable of producing 750 horsepower.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California - Hyundai on Monday took the wraps off the highly anticipated RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580, saying that the new racing car is "capable of producing 750 horsepower." The car, which was fabricated by Rhys Millen Racing, will compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 27.

The Korean automaker had teased the RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580 late last week via a moody, black-and-white video that only showed bits and pieces of the vehicle.

Monday's information laid out the vehicle's specifications - up to a point - and its inspiration.

Rhys Millen Racing said the RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580 is patterned after "a modern Le Mans-style car." It has a target weight of 1,850 pounds and is powered by a 3.8-liter Hyundai Lambda turbocharged V6 stroked to 4.1 liters. Although Hyundai skirted the issue of precise engine specifications, the automaker said that "current engine testing shows the engine is capable of producing 750 horsepower, which is more than needed to tackle the mountain." It also noted that to have a competitive power-to-weight ratio, the team feels "the car will need to produce 675 horsepower."

The Korean racer has a carbon-fiber aerodynamic body with an active rear wing and front and rear diffusers. It also will use an active center differential. "This differential will allow a 10-100 percent torque split to the front wheels," said Hyundai. "This is important because the course changes from asphalt to dirt multiple times and allows the Genesis PM580 to have more than one setup on the 12.42-mile course."

Rhys Millen said he will attempt to set an under-10-minute new world record at the course. "This is the package I need to break the record," he said in a statement.

Other details on the racing Genesis include a chromoly frame and roll cage, a Weismann semi-automatic AWD transmission, Tilton racing clutch, carbon-fiber Brembo brakes and pads and Toyo Proxy tires.
