Ah, non sapevo non si vedesse, mi spiace, adesso hai sistemato perfortuna! Ma.. non ho capito, mi hanno dato una infrazione per questa cosa? cioè ho messo il link all'immagine (io la vedevo ovviamente, non sapevo non si vedesse…) e alla pagina di descrizione e mi sono preso l'infrazione per non aver messo la fonte o per spam?!

Buyers who opt for the high-performance 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will now have a choice between automatic and manual transmissions. Though the company had previously said it would only come with a true manual transmission, Chevrolet says that high customer demand means the ZL1 is also being offered with an optional six-speed automatic. Chevrolet Camaro spokesman David Caldwell told us that the company had been considering offering the ZL1 with an automatic transmission for some time, and once customer feedback indicated there was a strong interest in such an option, the company made the decision to develop the transmission. Caldwell said “the majority” of Camaros are sold with automatics.

The ZL1’s automatic will be a six-speed unit with manual shift controls. It’s a unique transmission that is designed for the high power and torque loads of the ZL1’s engine, but Caldwell told us the design is a “sister” to the automatics employed by the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V.

We also learned that the Camaro ZL1 will score Performance Traction Management, which debuted on the Corvette ZR1 and can now be optioned on the Corvette Z06. PTM is an extension of traction control that modulates engine torque to maintain maximum grip and acceleration when cornering.

The 2012 Camaro ZL1 bowed at the Chicago auto show earlier this year, with a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 engine under the hood, and output ratings of 550 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. Those could change before the car reaches production, though, as Chevrolet previously said it was still fine-tuning the engine’s performance. The current Camaro SS boats 426 hp and 420 lb-ft from a normally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8.

To keep the ZL1 on the road and out of ditches, it rides on lightweight 20-inch wheels, has upgraded brakes (14.6-inch discs front, 14.4-inch discs rear), and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. The ZL1 wears a chiseled new look thanks to a new front fascia and rear diffuser, and trims weight with a hood made from aluminum and carbon fiber.

Expect the gutsy Camaro ZL1 to go on sale around February 2012.

General Motors has finally let one of its biggest cats out of its bag: The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be officially rated at 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque.

Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro, is justifiably proud of his creation, saying, "The Camaro ZL1 delivers supercar performance and technology in the sports-car segment. For sheer power, the ZL1 delivers more horsepower than a Ferrari 458, more torque than an Aston Martin DB9 V12, and a better power-to-weight ratio than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS."

The supercharged engine is the most powerful mill ever put in the engine bay of a Camaro – besting the rated output of the 1969 Camaro ZL1's 427-cubic-inch V8 by 150 horses – and it can be mated up with either a six-speed manual gearbox or, importantly for mass appeal, a six-speed automatic fitted with Drive, Sport and Manual modes for increased driver involvement.

You may be wondering how Chevrolet expects all that power to reach the ground in any meaningful fashion that doesn't involve incinerating a fresh pair of tires. And the answer would be with Performance Traction Management and third-generation Magnetic Ride Control. Magnetic Ride control uses Magneto-Rheological fluid in the shocks and is computer controlled with readings that adjust damping a staggering 1,000 times per second, and has Tour, Sport and Track settings.

Performance Traction Management, not surprisingly, is a traction control system with five distinct modes appropriate for everything from rain to race, which is calibrated for use at drag strips conditioned with VHT (a traction compound sprayed on asphalt).

Inquiring minds want to know: How will Ford and Dodge respond to the 2012 ZL1? We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, click past the break for the complete press release.

It sounds like the good people at General Motors have been having some fun with their newest toy; the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Jason Laird, executive director for product and technology communications at GM, tweeted that the meanest Camaro of them all managed to lap the Nurburgring in a scant 7:41.27.

If you're keeping track, that time puts the ZL1 in some pretty heady company. Hardware like the Porsche 911 GT3, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, and the Audi R8 5.2 FSI have all done the deed slower, though perhaps not in the same conditions with the same driver. Regardless, it's fast.

Currently there's no word on who was behind the wheel during that mad dash around the track, but we have our fingers crossed for some suitably spectacular video sometime soon. Our hats go off to the suspension gurus at GM for an impressive effort. Just don't tell James May.
