Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer has previously hinted that the Volkswagen's supervisory board was close to approving the brand's crossover and a new report is indicating the model has been green-lighted.

Germany's Handelsblatt says Volkswagen's board recently approved the model because they are convinced it will "pay off." They go on to say the crossover - codenamed Falcon - will cost €200,000 ($270,920 / £171,440) and have an annual output of 5000 units.

The newspaper is also reporting the crossover will built in Bratislava, Slovakia and then shipped to Crewe, England for final assembly. While Slovakia isn't exactly the English countryside, Bentley has previously transferred final assembly of Flying Spurs to Dresden, Germany to cope with demand.

When Automotive News asked Bentley for confirmation, a spokesperson declined to confirm Handelsblatt's report by saying "We are still waiting for the official green light from Volkswagen."

As we have previously reported, Bentley's crossover was recently previewed by the EXP 9 F concept. However, critics and consumers panned the concept's styling so designers are working on a radically new model which will closer resemble the Continental family.

A new report indicates Bentley could decide to build their upcoming SUV model in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia.

It's the second time we hear about this surprising move regarding Bentley's SUV which will not be called Falcon. Company officials have confirmed a new name is in the works and will be more suitable for global markets.

Bentley's chief Wolfgang Schreiber is expecting an approval for production to come "very soon" and if green lighted, the SUV will be made starting 2015 or 2016. They are still analyzing the prospects of making it in Crewe and even if they don't, most of the interior parts will be shipped from there to maintain the Bentley feel inside the cabin.

Although we don't have an image with the final look of the car or details about pricing, Bentley has already received more than 2,000 orders. It is believed the entry-level variant will cost about 125,000 GBP (188,925 USD or 146,092 EUR) with half of the sales expected to come from United States and China, while the other half will go to Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Bentley has confirmed it is to build an SUV. The new model line will be built in Crewe and will go on sale in 2016.

Bentley will invest more than £800m in its Crewe headquarters and the development of new models. The move will create more than 1000 jobs.

The forthcoming model, which will become the firm’s fourth model line will be a “thoroughbred” Bentley, which will represent the brand’s “hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship”. Bentley claims it will be the most powerful SUV on the market.

The announcement of a production SUV follows the Bentley EXP 9 F concept, which was shown at the 2012 Geneva motor show. It is likely to share its platform with the next-generation Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne.

David Cameron, who was present at the announcement said: “This £800 million investment and a thousand new jobs from Bentley is fantastic news for both Crewe and for the UK as a whole. It is another important milestone in strengthening our economy.

“One sector that we know is sprinting ahead in the global race is our booming automotive industry. One vehicle rolls off a production line somewhere in the UK every 20 seconds and we have just launched the government’s Automotive Industrial Strategy to help continue this success for years to come.

“I am delighted that Bentley will be building their new vehicle here, not only creating a thousand jobs, but safeguarding many more, as well as increasing training opportunities for highly skilled apprentices.”

Volkswagen group boss, Martin Winterkorn said: “The Volkswagen Group believes in the UK as a competitive location for industrial production. Bentley fans all around the world are looking forward to the brand’s first SUV. Together we will make this new Bentley another true Bentley – powerful, exclusive and successful.”

Al momento: Ibrido: Premontaggio "semplici" by Skoda, lastratura pure. Rifinimenti, personalizzazione (e qui ci voule mano d opera) e certi lavori sulla carozzeria (p.e. fortificazione, security pack etc) in UK.

Non a caso quello arriva almeno un anno dopo. L'avranno ritardato per permettere al Bentley di tentare davvero di essere il "SUV più potente in commercio" almeno per qualche mese?

Non iniziamo a confondere le cose:

Bentley: Macchina prodotta in maniera semi artigianale con aprocio molto industriale. Cioé qui si parla di nummeri...

Lambo: Se un cliente arriva domani e sborsa 250mio€ per un SUV made by Lambo.. Al volo. Ma anche una piccola seria (pagata rigorosamente in anticipo) é possibile. Ma non sará ne industriale, ne una produzioen "illimitata". Cioé i ragionamenti sono cosí diversi com non potrebbero esser.
