Remember Toyota’s 86xStyle Cb Concept unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon? Well, the automaker has decided to bring it to production, but only for the Japanese market.

Marketed as the Toyota 86 style Cb, the model has a restyled front end which sports a friendlier face thanks to the rounder headlights and grille – apparently aimed at attracting women buyers. The rear end stays largely the same as that of the standard 86.

The interior features some changes as well, with the center console and dashboard getting a wood grain finish, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel gains the Cb emblem. Additionally, the instrument cluster sports white needles.

Nothing changes under the hood, as the 86 style Cb is powered by the same 200hp 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-four engine, offered either with standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic.

The Toyota 86 style Cb is offered with five exterior colors, including two two-tone schemes that combine Nuance Beige and Demitasse Brown. Customers will be able to order the car from April 23 at Toyopet, Corolla and Netz dealers across Japan, with prices starting from 4,180,582 yen (approximately $34,882) for the manual version.

The Toyota GT86 is approaching its first facelift since its launch in 2012, with the refreshed model to reportedly arrive in April 2016.

The mid-cycle makeover will bring both fresh lines and more power. However, don’t expect a major power upgrade. “Look to some major body panel redesign,” a source close to Toyota told Australia’s Motoring. “It won’t be too radical because the 86 is made on the same assembly line as the Subaru BRZ, so the restyling process must be carried out within set parameters,” the person added.

The 2016 Toyota GT86 will get a new front-end design with a new bonnet, headlights and bumper, as well as a bigger lower grille. The coupe will also gain a redesigned rear bumper with a more aggressive diffuser, while the exhaust outlets will be repositioned towards the corners.

As for performance upgrades, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine will receive a few mechanical improvements. “Engineers have focused on friction reduction engineering and a more efficient intake manifold design that will boost power and torque by around five percent, while improving fuel efficiency by up to seven per cent,” the insider said.

This means the GT86’s maximum power will increase from 197hp (200PS) to around 208hp (211PS). Not spectacular, but an increase nevertheless. The 2016 GT86 may is also tipped to receive bespoke Sachs dampers as standard equipment, as well as a reinforced rear suspension sub-frame for improved rear-end rigidity.

The GT86’s twin, the Subaru BRZ, will also receive a facelift next year, but details are vague so far. While the engine will get identical upgrades, in terms of styling the BRZ is expected to be more different that the GT86, with some elements inspired from the 2013 Viziv concept car.
