Toyota GT 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has confirmed the sports car will be offered as a convertible.

Speaking with Autobild, Tada said "The GT 86 was designed from the outset [so] that we can build it as a convertible." However, the company hasn't decided on when the car will be launched.

When it does, it will undoubtedly feature a 2.0-liter boxer engine that develops 200 PS (147 kW / 197 hp) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque.

Despite previous reports, there is no information if the convertible will be offered for the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S versions.

With the wheels and tires from a Toyota Prius and only 200 horsepower on tap, the GT 86 (Scion FR-S) was always going to be about the fun side of life. And what could be more fun than hooning in a drop-top version.

According to AutoCar, this will be ready very soon, as Toyota has optedto show the GT 86 Convertible at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, which is in March of next year.

The engineers have reportedly chosen to make it a soft-top in order to keep the added weight to a minimum. They’ve also removed the rear seats, which would have been far too impractical.

Power will likely remain the same: 200 horsepower coming from a 2.0-liter boxer engine.

The Toyoya GT 86 and Subaru BRZ were designed from the start to be converted into drop-tops. That means only minimal bracing will be needed to stiffen the car back up. Both versions of the car and most like the Scion as well will be produced from a single Fuji Heavy Industries factory in the middle of Japan.

Se così non fosse non ne capisco il senso. L'aveva annunciata come un puro divertimento alla guida, cosa che soggettivamente potrebbe anche essere, ma con la cabrio si contraddicono

Chi è così bravo e paziente da fare uno sciop con un muso alfa? O riprender gli shop già fatti e tagliare il tetto?

ok, fatta la battuta, dico che.. quoto Ricky, potrebbe essere una bella rottura, anche se questa è più grezza e Alfa dovrebbe avere uno stile più sobrio ed elegante.
