It looks like Opel's decision to kill the Astra Twin-Top and add a larger and more luxurious soft-top model into its automobile lineup in the form of thenew Cascada convertible was in the right direction as one of its chief rivals in Europe, the Volkswagen brand, is contemplating the same exact move.During the launch of the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the carmaker's head of design Klaus Bischoff toldAutocar magazine that there are no plans to introduce a successor to the Eos, a four-seater convertible with a retractable hardtop that'sbased on the Golf.

"The Eos will not be prolonged when it comes off the market," said Bischoff. "Retractable hardtops are disappearing from the market now, and to be honest that’s not something I mind."

The Volkswagen executive added that the company is mulling a larger, four-seat soft-top model.

“There’s definitely room in our line-up for a larger convertible, so why not do it?” he said. "The problem with such ambitions is that all our existing factories are at full capacity, so any new additions means building new factories."

Conferme positive, invece, per il famoso SUV a Sette Posti, che probabilmente verrà venduto soltanto in USA e Russia e che andrà a sfidare direttamente la Ford Explorer.

Leggevo che il SUV 7 posti è in realtà un operazione di downsizing.

Faranno un modello al di sotto di Touareg su piattaforma Golf& C, probabilmente col passo della Passat.

Evidentemente la base meccanica del Touareg sarebbe stata troppo costosa.

@Touareg: Guarda cosa producono nella fabbrica della EOS, fai i conti che era il tetto piú complicato e gli ing. della Karman hanno altro da fare. E ti viene quale modello sará la sostituto della EOS - parlando spiritualmente.
