Rolls-Royce Crossover (Notizie)

Messaggi Raccomandati:

Could Rolls-Royce be working on a luxury crossover to compete with the Range Rover Autobiography, Maserati Levante, Bentley SUV, and Lamborghini Urus? A recent Automobile report suggests the British automaker is, in addition to seriously considering a V-16-powered roadster based on the next-generation Phantom.

With Rolls-Royce’s biggest rival, Bentley, exploring the ultra-luxury SUV game with the EXP 9 F, it makes sense that Rolls is at least mulling over a move into the marketplace. According to reports, there are two factions within Rolls-Royce warring over whether the brand should build its first crossover. The traditionalist wing considers an SUV to go against the automaker’s values, while the more progressive side wants to give the market what it wants.

Mi è preso un colpo quando ho letto il titolo :)

Però se ci pensiamo bene da quando esiste il progetto di un SUV Bentley? Minimo 10 anni.

Non sarebbe poi una cattiva idea, vedendo anche chi muove i fili.

Rumors of a Rolls-Royce crossover have been

swirling for years and a new report is indicating its fate could depend on

whether or not BMW decides to build an X7 crossover.

Automobile

Magazine says engineers have looked at various platforms to underpin a

crossover and the Phantom's architecture was ruled out because it was "deemed

unsuitable." Engineers also tossed around the idea of creating a bespoke

platform but that was reportedly rejected due to cost concerns.

To alleviate these problems, engineers are

reportedly pinning their hopes on BMW green-lighting an X7 to battle the Mercedes GL-Class. The X7 would be based on the

X5 and feature an extended wheelbase as well as

an accommodating third row seat. The Rolls-Royce, on the other hand, would be a

four-seater with an optional third row.

Even if BMW green-lights the X7, engineers

would have to make significant modifications to ensure the model is a 'proper'

Rolls-Royce. It's also unclear if the crossover would be outfitted with a

twin-turbo V8 or a larger V12 engine.

If everything pans out, the Rolls-Royce

crossover could be launched in 2017 and cost slightly less than the Ghost.
