but the point is, as reported by the article (its allpar right?), that this new model would be built on the giorgio platform. IMO this cannot be without spoiling the huge effort spent to rise the AR name, I guess that in allpar they want to have a piece of giorgio, before they where sayng that was designed in Detroit.

FCA Offers Voluntary Exit Package to Serbian Workers

VIENNA – FCA Srbija, the joint venture owned 67% by FiatChrysler Automobiles and 33% by the Serbian state, is inviting employees at its Kragujevac plant to apply for a voluntary separation package in conjunction with plans to end a third shift after the August holidays.

The package includes severance benefits as prescribed by law, which is a sum equal to a third of the employee's earnings in the past 12 months for each year of service at FCA, plus other payments.

Zoran Markovic, head of FCA Srbija’s trade unions, says a worker with three years of service will receive up to €4,800 ($6,061). Those who worked at the company’s predecessor Zastava car plant and later transferred to FCA will be offered €300 ($379) per year of service.

About 3,200 people are employed at the Kragujevac facility. About 2,500 have three to five years of service and only about 500 have been at the plant for 11 to 38 years.

The automaker is expected to idle nearly 30% of its workers.

“Fiat is pleased with Serbia, and Fiat will not leave Serbia because it would leave a billion (euros in investment),” Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic tells local media at a press conference. “They feel they have to produce between 75,000 and 90,000 (cars per year), and it takes two, rather than three shifts, so allow us to solve problems and we will deal with them.”

Vucic earlier traveled to Turin, Italy, for a crisis meeting with Alfredo Altavilla, FCA’s chief operating officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

FCA Srbija launched volume production of the Fiat 500L, a model also exported to the U.S., in July 2012. It added the 500L Living, a stretched 7-seat version with an additional third row of seats, in 2013. FCA is expected to launch a facelifted version of the 500L next year.

Some 100,000 cars were manufactured in Kragujevac in 2015.

Dodge Dart output to end in September

Fiat Chrysler said Thursday it will invest $1.05 billion in assembly plants in Ohio and Illinois to bolster Jeep output.

The carmaker will invest $350 million to move production of the Jeep Cherokee from Toledo, Ohio, to Belvidere, Ill., as part of a strategy to revamp its North American manufacturing footprint over the next year and a half to focus on light-truck output in the U.S.

Output of the Dodge Dart compact car and the Jeep Compass and Patriot, which are currently made at the Belvidere factory, will cease by the end of 2016. Earlier this year, CEO Sergio Marchionne said FCA is looking to outsource production of the Dart and the low-selling Chrysler 200 to a partner.

The Compass and Patriot are being replaced by one SUV, which will be shown at the Los Angeles auto show later this year and will be produced in the Toluca, Mexico, plant.

Toledo plans

FCA said it also will invest $700 million in the Toledo North assembly plant to make way for the next-generation Jeep Wrangler. About 700 jobs will be added in Toledo, the company said, keeping in line with Marchionne’s earlier promises that switching up Jeep production would not result in job losses in Toledo.

FCA didn’t confirm any changes for Toledo South, but it is widely expected that the long-anticipated Jeep pickup truck will be manufactured there. FCA has said the Jeep pickup will be launched in early 2018. 

An announcement of changes for the Toledo South plant is expected to come by the end of the third quarter.

Jeep's legacy

This week marks the 75th anniversary of Jeep, which started in Toledo when Willys-Overland Motor Co. received a contract to produce a vehicle for the American military to use on the battlefield during World War II.

The city of Toledo and JobsOhio, a regional business group, worked with FCA to keep Jeep manufacturing in the city.

“Continuing the heritage of Jeep in Toledo, we are thrilled that FCA is investing $700 million with a focus on the future of the next generation of the Jeep Wrangler,” said JobsOhio President John Minor.

Jeep sales have been a strong driver for FCA. The brand sold 1.2 million vehicles globally in 2015, its fourth consecutive year of record sales. Jeep's U.S. sales grew 16.5 percent to 468,131 during the first half of 2016.

 

Conformemente a quanto anticipato mesi fa dal maglionato, arriva l'annuncio ufficiale dell'avvio dell'investimento di 1,05 mld $ per l'adeguamento dell'impianto di Toledo North per la produzione della nuova generazione del Wrangler e contestuale spostamento del Cherokee (che va a Belvidere in Illinois) da Toledo South, dove, a partire dal 2018, si produrra il pick-up su base Wrangler (si attende l'annuncio del relativo investimento per la fine del terzo trimestre 2016). Termine produzione di Compass, Patriot e Dart (modelli prodotti a Belvidere) entro la fine del 2016 .

In considerazione dell'idea di puntare sulla sportivita' del marchio Dodge, vedrei bene una condivisione della piattaforma Giorgio (o una sua derivata) per il sostituto del Journey (che non avra' evidentemente il gemello Fiat). Sarei contentissimo se la sua produzione fosse spostata in Italia. Tuttavia si legge spesso che le prossime Charger e Challenger dovrebbero essere costruite sulla piattaforma Giorgio (o una sua derivata). La cosa che non mi torna e' il ragionamento per cui, dato che il nuovo Journey nascera' su piattaforma Giorgio (o una sua derivata), la sua produzione dovra' essere spostata in Italia. Con lo stesso ragionamento anche Charger e Challenger dovrebbero essere spostate in Italia. Cosa per me impensabile. Penso quindi che lo spostamento del nuovo Journey in Italia sia una notizia infondata. Piu' probabile che una delle fabbriche USA venga riconvertita a una piattafroma di derivazione Giorgio per costruirci Charger, Challenger e nuovo Journey (quindi nella nuova veste sportiva) e spero la nuova 300 (che non riesco ad immaginare a trazione anteriore)

Perchè il nuovo D-SUV Dodge rwd e new Charger/Challenger hanno tempistiche di uscita diverse, il primo è in uno stadio più avanzato e dovrebbe debuttare tra 1-2 anni e inizialmente (per i primi 3 anni circa imho) potrebbe aver senso produrlo in Italia in uno stabilimento dove già costruiscono auto su quel pianale.

 

Charger si parla di MY 2021> e sino ad allora fanno in tempo ad allestire una linea di produzione ex-novo in USA(Brampton dove le attuali Charger/Challenger/300 avranno terminato la produzione o altrove) per prodotti su pianale Giorgio come new Charger/Challenger e dove in un secondo momento trasferire anche il nuovo D-SUV rwd e liberare spazio in Italia per altri prodotti AR magari.
