Could be launched in late 2015 or early 2016

The MINI Coupe and Roadster are the brand's most stylish models but their future could be in doubt.

According to Australia's Motoring, the cars will be replaced by a new sports car that is more differentiated from the rest of the MINI lineup.

Little is known about the model but it is expected to feature more curvaceous bodywork and a futuristic interior that could borrow cues from the Vision concept. That's not much to go on but the car will reportedly ride on the front-wheel drive UKL platform and be available as a coupe (codenamed F58) and convertible (codenamed F59).

Power will reportedly be provided by a BMW-sourced 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine. There's no word on outputs, but the report says we can expect both S and JCW variants.

If everything pans out, the new sports car could be launched by late 2015 or early 2016.
