Press Release :

The new Golf Sportsvan

World premiere of near-production concept car at IAA

Sporty design combined with great everyday practicality

Wolfsburg, 08 September 2013 - Volkswagen is presenting a concept car of the newly developed Golf Sportsvan in a world premiere at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The compact minivan will complete the Golf family at the middle of next year.

The Golf Sportsvan impresses with such features as a perceptibly more spacious and flexible interior (rear bench seat has 180 mm fore-aft adjustment and over 1,500 litres of cargo capacity) and highly advanced assistance systems. Even the base version offers such standard features as XDS+, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, air conditioning, seven airbags, the new electronic parking brake, a 5-inch touchscreen, variable cargo floor and a cargo cover.

In addition, highly innovativelb_icon1.png assistance systems are making their way into the Golf Sportsvan, including the Blind Spot Monitor incorporating Rear Traffic Alert, which is being implemented in a Golf for the first time. While driving, the Blind Spot Monitor warns the driver of vehicles in the blind spot. When reversing out of a parking space, the system also recognises cross-traffic approaching from behind the car that can be difficult for the driver to see, and it warns the driver in case of a hazard. If a collision is imminent, the system automatically activates an emergency braking function. Other available technologies include DCC dynamic chassis control, the Front Assist with City Emergency Braking surroundings monitoring system, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a lane-keeping assistant.

The six new engines of the Golf Sportsvan cover a power range from 63 kW / 85 PS to 110 kW / 150 PS; they have a stop-start system as standard and are up to 19 per cent more fuel efficientlb_icon1.png than the previous engine versions. All of the engines available at market launch conform to the Euro-6 emissions standard as well. The 1.6 TDI BlueMotion with 110 PS is representative of just how efficient the new engines of the Golf Sportsvan are: its estimated fuel consumption will be a low 3.7 l/100 km (equates to 95 g CO2/km) – the best value in the field of compact minivans.

  • Trade fair premiere at the Geneva Motor Show
  • Fuel consumption of 3.6 l / 100 km best in class for a compact MPV

At the Geneva International Motor Show Volkswagen is giving a trade fair debut to the new Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion1. The extremely economic version of the new Golf Sportsvan is a top-ranking compact MPV, needing just 3.6 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, equating to CO2 emissions of 95 g/km.

At Volkswagen the term BlueMotion has stood for excellent environmental compatibility and ecological credentials since 2006. Using this technology, Volkswagen continually supplements its range of extremely fuel-efficient models, extending its lines through the addition of progressive, reduced consumption, lower emission BlueMotion models. Despite all its efficiency, the new Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion is also a multi-talented five-seater that transports its passengers safely, comfortably and nimbly and provides a spacious, flexible interior as well.

The good aerodynamics of the 81 kW / 110 PS Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion contributes significantly to the low fuel consumption. Thanks to numerous modifications the new MPV achieves an impressive CD value of 0.27. Among the factors that have enhanced the aerodynamics are the lowered vehicle body (15 millimetres lower), a special roof edge spoiler, a radiator grille - with blue strip - partially closed to the outside, a partially sealed ventilation grille with radiator shutter behind it, optimised cooling airflow and special underfloor panels.

The Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion is available in Trendline and Comfortline versions. The specific BlueMotion features also include 15-inch alloy wheels and tyres optimised for low roll resistance. The new BlueMotion model is additionally perfected by a Stop/Start system, regenerative braking mode, modifications within the TDI engine and a modified 6-speed manual gearbox. The new Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion will be available in Germany from this summer.
