La Z06 dovrebbe avere il 7.0L con potenza da 515cv ad oltre i 600cv e la ZR1 il motore LT1 dell'attuale C6 base ma rivisto per andare oltre i 700cv. Sperano in "revival" del motore LT5 che equipaggiava la Corvette ZR1 C4 che era sviluppato da Lotus.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is finally here and it’s a significant update, but it’s just the first step. We’re already hearing whispers from the Warren plan about the next Z06 and ZR1.

Word is, the next Z06 will keep its monster naturally aspirated 7.0-liter engine, but with even more power. In fact, we hear it could jump from today’s 505 hp to as high as 600. The decision won’t be made, though, until they get the final number for the next ZR1’s supercharged V-8. That engine, we’re told, will be an evolution of the new LT1 V-8 in the base C7. We can only hope it will revive the LT5 moniker of the original ZR-1’s engine. The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is shown at right.

The Z06/ZR1 output logic basically works like this: If the ZR1 makes 675 hp or so, the Z06 will get 550. If the ZR1 cracks 700 hp, the Z06 will crack 600. Anyone who knows GM knows how this works: The top-dog Corvette will always be protected, even from its own variants.

The Corvette team has so far refused to comment on the next Z06 and ZR1, but we’re told the first variant, likely the Z06, is at least a year out so as not to trample on the base car.

2018 Corvette ZR1 Scooped As 700hp+ Swansong To C7

The first spy shots of the latest and greatest Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 are here giving us a preview of what's expected to be the final C7-generation model.

The following test mule has evidently been fitted with a thoroughly revised front fascia given the extensive black camouflage hiding most of the design changes. Camo also adorns the rear-end but to a much lesser extent indicating that as predicted, most of the modifications to the range-topping version will be found up front.

Chevy's current 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 powering the Z06, Camaro ZL1 and Cadillac CTS-V is thought to be operating near its max at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft. Consequently, there's talk that the new ZR1 will debut a brand new engine dubbed the LT5.

If sources are correct, it is predicted to be a twin-turbo V8 which would help to explain the radical changes at the front end of this prototype, including a set of additional air intakes. While power figures of this engine aren't known, it will inevitably churn out over 700 hp and have enough torque to split the world in half. The Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F12 better look out then.

As this is the first time the model has been spied testing, it won't debut this year and in all likelihood, instead be released at a major motor show next year before hitting the market as a 2018 model.

If the rumors are true and the C8-generation Corvette is indeed the long-awaited mid-engined model, this final front-engined 'Vette would be a fitting swansong.

Taking Wing: More Spy Photos Hint at Active Aero for 2018 Corvette ZR1

 

No one at GM challenged our recent informed speculation concerning the 2018 Corvette Stingray ZR1, silent confirmation that we’re probably right on. As further evidence that something special is heading our way early next year we offer a second round of sky-view photos of this ultimate C7, which we expect will boast 700 horsepower.

These pics, recently scored in broad daylight at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan, clearly reveal two substantial struts attached to the Stingray’s tail, obviously for supporting an aerodynamic appendage. Look through the test car’s hatch to see said appendage swaddled in bubble wrap. Click through the photo gallery to see more.

  • The Corvette development group is in the midst of choosing between hydraulic and pneumatic actuators for an adjustable rear wing intended for production. Will adaptive aerodynamics provide a dramatic statement for the ZR1, or is this research for the mid-engine C8 generation that begins in 2019?  That we can’t say with certainty. But, given the flood of photos coming from high above Milford as evidence that development is proceeding apace, the answer could surface soon.
