ROLLE, Switzerland – Washing a car can be a chore – and a costly one at that. In response, Nissan in Europe has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again.

The specially engineered super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint, which repels water and oils, has been applied to the all-new European market Nissan Note to create the world's first self-cleaning car.

To assess the real-world effectiveness of the super-hydrophobic as a potential aftermarket application, engineers at Nissan Technical Centre Europe will be testing the self-cleaning Note over the coming months in a variety of conditions.

Nissan is the first carmaker to apply the technology, called Ultra-Ever Dry®, on automotive bodywork. By creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment, it effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car's surface.

So far, the coating, which is being marketed and sold by UltraTech International Inc®, has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water. Whilst there are currently no plans for the technology to be applied to the model as standard, Nissan will continue to consider the coating technology as a future aftermarket option.

Materiale idrorepellente più micro-rugosità superficiale.

Il funzionamento sembra esserci.

La reale utilizzabilità forse no.

E' un materiale con una resistenza e una durata sufficiente a garantire quel comportamento su tutta la carrozzeria per almeno 6 mesi-1 anno?

Perchè resistenza meccanica, resistenza agli UV, agli sbalzi di temperatura, all'inquinamento sono indispensabili e tutti da dimostrare.

Se al minimo sfregamento la superficie perde la finitura micro-rugosa, se dopo qualche settimana al sole l'idrorepellente e/o la microfinitura deperiscono o se le polveri sottili compromettono il funzionamento... allora non è una soluzione adatta agli esterni dell'auto.

Il buon Regazzoni ha analizzato questa vernice con l'occhio dell'esperto...io, che sono più caciarone e che passo mezza mattina a lavare la macchina (perchè mi piace molto prendermene cura), lascio questa futuribile vernice, se e quando entrerà in commercio, a quelli che detestano lavare la propria auto...:mrgreen:

Supponendo che un domani facciano una versione definitiva che funzioni per un lasso di tempo non troppo breve (3-4 anni vanno bene) allora costasse anche il doppio della finitura metallizzata la comprerei alla grandissima.

La macchina non l'ho mai lavata (al massimo aspiro gli interni e scuoto i tappetini), pago 12€ e mi faccio fare la pulizia dentro-fuori all'autolavaggio qui vicino a casa.
