Nissan and PlayStation reveal future vision

  • Virtual supercar created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the legendary Gran Turismo® driving franchise
  • NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo hints at the future
  • 2+2 virtual supercar with advanced aerodynamic body

NASHVILLE. Tenn. – Nissan today lifts the virtual covers off the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future. It was created through close collaboration with the creators of Gran Turismo®, Polyphony Digital Inc., the legendary PlayStation® driving franchise.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo began life as dream project for Nissan designers who were given free rein to create their dream supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage.

Created by a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe, in London, England, the model was considered to have so much potential that it has benefited from input from an advanced engineering team based at Nissan Technical Centre in Atsugi, Japan.

As a result, NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo gives hints as to how a supercar of the future might look.

In July, automotive enthusiasts will be able to discover that performance first-hand when it becomes available to download in Gran Turismo®6, just as they did with the NISSAN GT-R and Skylines from earlier episodes of the historic franchise. That performance heritage and commitment to delivering excitement for enthusiasts is why there are Nissan vehicles in the franchise.

But as a specialist in automotive design in three-dimensions, Nissan believes that the real-world is ready for the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space…

Press Release:

irtual supercar created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the legendary Gran Turismo® driving game becomes real at Goodwood Festival of Speed

  • NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo to be presented at Goodwood on Thursday 26th at 13:00
  • 2+2 virtual supercar with advanced aerodynamic body
  • Four-wheel drive chassis, active suspension
  • Virtual version available to download in July Gran Turismo ®6

GOODWOOD, UK (25 June, 2014) – Nissan’s vision of a supercar for the future, originally created as a design study among Nissan’s young designers and formulated as a virtual model for the PlayStation®3 Gran Turismo® 6 (GT6™) computer game, has moved from the virtual world to reality.

The full size concept model will be presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from 13:00 on Thursday 26th at the Nissan booth.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo began as a dream project for Nissan’s young designers who were given free rein to create the perfect supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage.

But the design from a team at Nissan Design Europe, based in London, was seen to have so much potential that it has benefited from input from the brand’s expert engineering team in Japan.

Adapting design cues from current Nissan performance models, it was created from scratch using the latest digital design tools: the first – and to date only – physical representation of the car is the actual concept model.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo emerged from a styling and design study among Nissan’s global pool of young designers. Each team was answering a call from the makers of Gran Turismo 6, who have asked different manufacturers present within the game to each create visionary, dream cars to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

Nissan’s 2+2 sports car adapts race-track technology – in particular air flow management – to a road car environment.

Working closely with skilled aerodynamic technicians and engineering teams in Japan to ensure the virtual car performs as realistically as possible, the design is partly shaped by emotion and partly by the wind.

Neat styling touches evoke aspects of Nissan performance models through the ages but present them in a futuristic way.

Although visitors to Goodwood Festival of Speed will see a physical interpretation of the car, the first people to ‘drive’ it will be GT6 gamers. NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, which will be available in ten different shades, will be available to download from July, 2014.

“This is in line with the Nissan philosophy,” says Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe. “In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan’s promise of delivering innovation that excites.”

So will a production version be driven up the Goodwood hill in 2020? That remains to be seen… but a great deal can happen in the near future. And in the meantime, enthusiasts can enjoy its dramatic looks and spectacular virtual performance from the comfort of their armchair!
