Alfa Romeo confirms Quadrifoglio SUV performance model

Alfa Romeo has today confirmed that it will produce a hotted-up performance version of its yet unnamed SUV (pictured here in disguise undergoing testing).

Speaking to CarAdvice at the Frankfurt motor show today, the brand’s Chief Operating Officer of Europe, Africa and Middle East, Alfredo Altavilla, simply said “definitely, yes” when asked if Alfa Romeo would build a performance version of its upcoming SUV, and “Yes” again when asked if it would be a Quadrifoglio version.

The upcoming SUV, which is expected to be based on the Giulia platform, will likely make its debut in the middle of next year and share the sedan’s engine configuration and drivetrain, which means it will be available as rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models.

The confirmation of the Quadrifoglio version will see Alfa Romeo take on the likes of Audi’s SQ5 and the upcoming AMG version of Mercedes-Benz’s GLC.

Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio-enhanced SUV will be powered by the same 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 found in the Guilia, which produces around 380kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

In the Guilia’s case it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 307km/h, which will mean the SUV version should be able to do the same dash in the low 4s.

Fiat Chrysler (parent company of Alfa Romeo) CEO Sergio Marchionne has previously confirmed that Alfa Romeo would launch 8 new models by 2018, the SUV would be one of those models.

That should see the Italian brand’s current global sales of 68,000 units (in 2014) reach to around 400,000 by 2018.

Considerando che la gamma completa della Giulia sarà svelata a marzo io azzarderei la presentazione del Suv il 24 giugno sempre ad Arese, sarebbe affascinante no?

Considerato che, almeno in teoria, a Ginevra avranno da mostrare Giulia base, Giulietta MY 16 e MiTo MY 16, mi viene proprio da pensare che non ci sarà il SUV e che sarà presentato in un evento a sè stante come è stato per Giulia, quindi possibile pure la data del 24 Giugno.

OK l'entusiasmo.. Ma aspettiamo che esca.. Io dal SUV non mi aspetto moltissimo.. Non so perché..

Per me, in linea di massima, i suv con certe potenze hanno poco senso però magari mi sbaglio. Non ho mai provato un suv con potenze elevate, magari si scopre che sono divertenti da guidare, anche se ho qualche dubbio. Però l'immagine di un suv Alfa Quadrifoglio mi intriga
