Si farà: la produzione della Wagon è stata confermata al salone di Francoforte

Kia has announced the Optima will indeed spawn a wagon version influenced by the stunning Sportspace concept.

The reveal was made earlier this week during the company's press conference at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Kia also disclosed plans to offer the Optima wagon in the higher specification GT version that was recently introduced in the sedan guise. It will use a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 245 PS (180 kW) and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) which in the sedan enables a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 7.4 seconds and a 150 mph (240 km/h) top speed, but the wagon will be a tad slower due to its slightly higher weight.

Aside from getting the full-on GT treatment (not just the GT Line kit), the Kia Optima Sedan and Wagon will also receive a plug-in hybrid setup sometime next year. It's not known at this point whether the hardware will include a gasoline or a diesel engine, but it could turn out to be the latter taking into account at last year's Paris Motor Show they showed an Optima T-Hybrid conceptwhich combined the familiar 1.7-liter CRDi with an electric motor and a 48V lead-carbon battery.

As a final note, the Euro-spec Kia Optimawill be manufactured at home in South Korea at the firm's Hwasung factory wheareas the US-spec model is going to be assembled in West Point, Georgia.
