More grunt for Touareg

The Volkswagen Group is developing a new FSI direct-injection 3.6-litre V6 to replace today’s 3.2, as used by models from the A3 to the Touareg.

Power rises to 270bhp, up from around 220-240bhp, depending on application. The new engine will form the basis for a new generation of hot VW Group products – the R36 name has already been registered.

But the new engine has sparked angry words between VW and Porsche. The entry Touareg gets the new 3.6-litre V6 in late 2005.

Porsche, which has a deal with VW for the supply of the 3.2-litre V6 engine for its mechanically identical Cayenne, was reportedly unaware of its SUV partner’s plans, which were recently rubber-stamped by VW chairman, Bernd Pischetsrieder, without the knowledge of Porsche boss, Wendelin Wiedeking.

Vero ma non credo che sostituera' il 3.2V6 sara' un'alternativa..naturalmente su moelli come Phaeton oppure Touareg puo' sparire il 3.2V6...ma sugli altri dubito....
