ANOTHER SNAPSHOT OF OUR ELECTRIC FUTURE

ŠKODA is introducing its concept of a fully electric coupé. The ŠKODA VISION iV features new design components. Check out two sketches of the car.

This four-door crossover-coupé, another step on the way to ŠKODA’s electric future, is a sportily styled car standing on aerodynamically optimised 22-inch wheels. The car is built on MEB, the Group's modular platform for electric cars. Advanced technology is exemplified by cameras replacing the wing mirrors, which have been mounted on holders resembling shark fins.

The fascia attracts attention with its newly interpreted – but still characteristically broad – grille combining subtle vertical ribbing with a crystalline structure. A striking horizontal light strip in the upper part of the grille forms a link between the headlamps. Huge air inlets rounding of the sporty look are the dominant feature lower down.

At the back of the car, crystalline LED lights have been designed in a new version of ŠKODA’s signature C-shape. The ŠKODA name on the tailgate is written in red backlit lettering. The whole effect is topped off by a light strip running the breadth of the hulking diffuser.

› Coupé with dynamic lines based on the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB)
› ŠKODA to present more than ten electric models by the end of 2022
› Czech automaker invests two billion euros in alternative propulsion and new mobility services

Mladá Boleslav, 12 February 2019 – The Czech car manufacturer will be presenting its next step towards electric mobility at the Geneva Motor Show (5 to 17 March) with the ŠKODA VISION iV concept study. Now releasing two design sketches, ŠKODA whets the appetite for its first vehicle based on the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB). The four-door crossover coupé features fascinating sporty and emotional lines. Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design, explains on ŠKODA Storyboard, which design features of the VISION iV will be typical for future ŠKODA EVs.

The ŠKODA VISION iV combines an athletic body, 22-inch aerodynamically optimised wheels and powerfully flared mudguards with a pronounced coupé-like, flowing roofline. A characteristic tornado line connecting the front and rear emphasises the clean surfaces of the doors without handles. Cameras, whose housings are visually reminiscent of shark fins, take the place of traditional exterior mirrors.

The front characterises a reinterpretation of ŠKODA’s typically wide covered grille, featuring fine vertical ribs and crystalline structures. The horizontal light strip in the upper part of the grille and strikingly large air intakes in the front apron emphasise the sporty appearance. The powerful rear features aerodynamic spoiler edges and crystalline LED tail lights. They redefine the typical ŠKODA C-shape and emphasise the width of the vehicle in combination with a light strip above the rear diffuser. Another eye-catching element at the rear is the ŠKODA logo; the individual letters are lit up in red.

2019 marks ŠKODA’s entry into the era of electromobility. 124 years after the company was founded, the Czech automaker is launching the SUPERB PHEV with plug-in hybrid drive and fully battery-powered version of CITIGO. In 2020, the first production vehicles will follow based on the MEB. Over the next four years, ŠKODA is investing around two billion euros in alternative drive systems and new mobility services and will have introduced more than ten electrified models by the end of 2022.

The ŠKODA VISION iV Is Here

One of the premières that ŠKODA has prepared for the Geneva Motor Show is the electric-only VISION iV study. Take a peek ahead of the official unveiling.

The VISION iV is a vision of a fully electric four-door crossover-coupé, the brand’s first car built on a modular platform for electric vehicles (MEB). Its broadness, athletic body and 22-inch aerodynamically optimised wheels instantly draw the eye. The fascia is dominated by a hexagonal closed grille with slender vertical slats and a wide horizontal light strip interconnecting the headlights and giving the car its distinctive look.

The main features at the back are the aerodynamic lip spoiler and the crystalline LED tail lights stylised to form a C-shape. The sporty appearance is underscored by the imposing diffuser with a light strip stretching across the entire width. The overall impression is rounded off by the ŠKODA name in letters backlit in red.

The interior is very spacious and airy without compromising ŠKODA’s signature practicality and user-friendliness. The dashboard, split into two layers, is dominated by a free-standing infotainment system display that appears to be hovering in mid-air. The steering wheel has also been redesigned. In the VISION iV study it has two spokes and features the ŠKODA name in letters.

The centre console can now accommodate two smartphones, which can be interconnected with the infotainment system and can be charged inductively. As there is no tunnel console, it has been possible to create unprecedented amounts of storage space and practical stowage compartments in the car.
