Di questo passo servirà una fabbrica italiana per i 3 cilindri a catena 1.2 (e non solo i cambi a Mirafiori).

Give us FCA engines. They are here and they are ready.

Speaking about 1.2 3 cylinder. To my eyes it seems that 1.5 Firefly 4 cylinders is a more compact engine, smaller in dimensions.

Jeep wants Avenger to be a top 3-seller in Europe's biggest segment
The small SUV ranks No. 15 in its segment, but Europe COO Eric Laforge says Jeep would like to join the Toyota Yaris Cross "on the podium" soon.

FRANKFURT -- Jeep has high expectations for the Avenger.

Once the four-wheel-drive version is added to the model range in Europe next year, the Stellantis subsidiary expects the Avenger to put pressure on the small SUV segment leader, the Toyota Yaris Cross.

“I’ll be pleased if we can join them on the podium among small SUVs,” Jeep Enlarged Europe COO Eric Laforge told the Automotive News Europe Congress here June 12.

He said that since the Avenger was launched in February 2023 Jeep has gotten 95,000 customer orders, with 25 percent of that volume being the battery-electric version and the rest equally split between gasoline and mild hybrid versions.

Getting to the top three will be a big leap given that the Avenger was No. 15 with 25,820 sales in Europe’s largest segment through April, compared with 66,174 sales of the Yaris Cross.

However, the Avenger got into the top 15 because of a 754 percent sales increase compared with the first four months of last year.

Laforge admits the Avenger’s sales have been stalled by the automaker's decision to only offer the full-electric version of the small SUV at launch. Going EV first was decided years before the launch and was based on EV forecasts that didn’t materialize, he said.

As a next step, Jeep only offered the gasoline version of the small SUV in Italy, Spain and Poland before extending that variant to the rest of Europe. A 48-volt mild-hybrid version followed this year.

The experience with the Avenger has caused Jeep to take a more pragmatic approach.

Jeep’s global boss, Antonio Filosa, recently told Automotive News Europe that while future new model launches will still start with the full-electric version, variants with internal combustion derivatives would quickly be added in markets where demand was high.

With the lineup nearly complete, Jeep sees the Avenger as playing a key role in its goal of doubling its market share in Europe to 2 percent.

Laforge said there is no reason why the U.S. brand can’t perform as well as in Europe as it does in Italy, where it has a 4.5 percent share of the market through May.

The other cars Laforge is counting on to boost Jeep’s share are the new Compass to be launched next year and a European version of the Wagoner S large SUV that will arrive in Europe in 2026.

The Compass for Europe will be assembled at in Melfi, southern Italy, one of four continents where Jeep plans to build the car, Laforge said. The Compass will be available in Europe with both electric and hybrid versions, but no gasoline- or diesel-only powertrains, he added.

The Wagoner S was unveiled at the end of May in the U.S. In Europe it initially will only be offered as a full-electric model, Laforge said.

In realtà ha sempre detto che le valutazioni non valevano per la T30 e anzi aveva dichiarato che lei di sicuro non sarebbe stata assemblata in Italia per non mangiarsi i margini, quindi sinceramente non vedo alcun bluff

Stellantis, champion of home work, calls engineers back to the office

Engineers have been at the office at least three days a week since January.

Stellantis has sent its auto engineers back to the office, reversing a policy that CEO Carlos Tavares has used to cut expenses at a company that championed home working in the wake of the pandemic.

Engineers have been at the office at least three days a week since January, with some there as many as six days when a new car is introduced, said Ned Curic, who heads engineering and technology at Stellantis.

“It’s impossible to engineer vehicles remotely,” Curic said in an interview in Auburn Hills, Michigan. “You have to have people together. You have to do design sessions, engineering sessions and the buildups together. It helps us accelerate a number of projects.”

Stellantis championed remote work in recent years, and in the process drastically reduced office space and sold real estate assets.

Labor unions have criticized the intensity of the push, saying workers are often encouraged to stay away as much as possible.

The policy has been part of Tavares’ stringent efficiency push, who has cited intense competition from Chinese automakers for cutting jobs in countries including Italy and France.

The manufacturer in 2022 said its remote-work policy had become permanent, allowing non-assembly line workers to work from home 70 percent of the time while several other companies required staff to be back in offices more frequently since the end of COVID-19 lockdowns.

Tavares himself works from his home in Portugal around one week per month.

“Remote working is very flexible within Stellantis, depending on the need to work more or less often physically together,” a spokesperson for the company said. “There is a delegation to the management to establish the conditions of the best possible performance.”

Curic, a former Microsoft and Amazon.com executive who joined Stellantis in 2021, has been reorganizing the manufacturer’s engineering operations ever since his role was expanded last year to include research and development.

He oversees about 15,000 engineers, many of them located in France, Italy, Germany and the US, with growing teams also in Brazil and India.

Curic’s reversal of the policy helps allay worries that it might be harder for Stellantis engineers to efficiently work together on new cars. The company is in the middle of an ambitious new vehicle rollout plan, with 25 models to be introduced this year alone.

I marchi hanno nel DNA delle persone che ci lavorano la più grande forza ed identità, costruita in decenni di storia ed esperienza.

Questi stanno facendo tabula rasa, disintegrando valore intangibile come mai accaduto prima.

Almeno questa è la mia percezione e la mia opinione.

Ma forse solo alle satellite al estero, non nella centrale in Francia?
