Jeep CEO enacts turnaround plan after significant sales declines

The plan has included lowering pricing across its lineup, including on high-volume models such as the Jeep Compass and Grand Cherokee SUVs; rolling out special offers such as incentives or 0% financing; and increasing spending on marketing and advertising, Filosa said. It also will include an upcoming roadshow with dealers to address additional problems and concerns.

Such actions can eat into profits, but the brand’s average transaction prices have skyrocketed from less than $40,000 in 2020 to north of $50,000 this year, according to Cox Automotive. Jeep’s average transaction price has been above the industry average since 2021, Cox reports.
The most recent declines follow the company ending production last year of the entry-level Renegade and the Cherokee compact SUV — two mainstream models with peak U.S. sales of around 300,000 units annually from 2016 to 2019.

“For Jeep to lose Jeep Cherokee … and Jeep Renegade has been an important hit to us,” Filosa said. “Our market coverage declined from an average of 80% to 45%.”

Filosa said Jeep expects to recover market share “very quickly” and return to an 80% market share coverage, which includes the segments Jeep competes in, by the end of next year, when it introduces an unnamed replacement for the Cherokee as well as new electrified models.

As part of that plan, Jeep is targeting selling roughly 1.5 million SUVs globally by 2027, including 1 million in the U.S.

To achieve such goals, Tavares earlier this year said he has allowed leniency in some pricing, incentives and other financial targets after speaking with the company’s dealers.

Jeep to offer wide range of powertrain options
Jeep has an assortment of new gasoline, plug-in hybrid and fully electric entries in the pipeline.

The Recon, an EV inspired by the Wrangler, is coming in 2025.
Jeep is replenishing its lineup in the coming years with an assortment of powertrain options, including two fully electric vehicles arriving in the months ahead.

The familiar Cherokee and Renegade nameplates could return to the lineup on new platforms. The Cherokee was discontinued last year, and the Renegade was dropped from the U.S. lineup after the 2023 model year, although it continued to be sold in other markets.

Recon: The electric Recon is an eco-friendly off-roader inspired by the Wrangler that will have removable doors and glass to offer open-air experiences. The company says it will reach dealerships in 2025.


The electric Jeep Wagoneer S arrives at dealerships this fall.
Wagoneer S: The electric Wagoneer S reaches U.S. and Canadian dealerships in the fall. It has an estimated range of more than 300 miles with a 0-to-60-mph time of 3.4 seconds. The five-seat Wagoneer S is smaller than the gasoline-powered, three-row Wagoneer SUVs that Jeep sells today, and the company said the EV will be the brand's most aerodynamic vehicle. It will be sold in major markets around the world, including Europe.

Electric midsize crossover: A new EV crossover on the STLA Large platform is coming in 2025. AutoForecast Solutions says it will be called the Cherokee. The Cherokee's previous generation went out of production in 2023.

Electric Renegade: The Renegade that will now be an electric subcompact crossover, which Stellantis plans to sell for under $25,000, could debut around 2027.

STELLANTIS
The Gladiator, as shown in 2024, gets a 4xe plug-in hybrid in 2025.
Gladiator: The midsize pickup is getting a 4xe plug-in hybrid version in late 2025. Production continues into 2028, when a redesigned version emerges.

Wagoneer L/Grand Wagoneer L: The extended versions of the premium utility vehicles debuted in 2022. Production is expected to continue into 2028, according to the UAW.

Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer: Stellantis' UAW contract shows the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer getting extended-range electric versions in 2025, with fully electric versions coming in 2027.

AutoForecast Solutions believes there could be a consolidation of the lineup in 2025. The forecaster says the standard Wagoneer nameplate could be dropped while Jeep continues on with the Grand Wagoneer.


STELLANTIS
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L will continue through 2027.
Grand Cherokee L: Production of the three-row utility vehicle is slated to continue into at least 2027, according to AutoForecast Solutions. A redesign could emerge in 2027.

Grand Cherokee: The Grand Cherokee could move to Stellantis' STLA Large platform in 2027. Stellantis' UAW contract lists an electric Grand Cherokee arriving in 2027.

Wrangler: The Wrangler is slated to get fully electric and extended-range electric versions in 2028, when the next generation arrives.

Compass: The next generation is likely to go into production in 2025 on the STLA Medium platform.

L’erede della Renegade nascerà sulla stessa piattaforma dell'Avenger, la Cmp? Nell’ultimo aggiornamento del piano-prodotto l’avete annunciata con prezzi a partire da 25 mila dollari negli Usa: un dettaglio che suggerirebbe, invece, l’utilizzo del pianale Smart Car…
Non abbiamo ancora deciso su quale piattaforma nascerà l’erede della Renegade: ci sono valutazioni in corso. Anche per questo, al momento non possiamo dire esattamente quando arriverà.

 

Su quale punto vertono le discussioni: dimensioni, prezzo, motorizzazioni?
Dalla scelta della piattaforma dipendono diversi fattori, a partire dal posizionamento.

 

Possiamo aspettarci un’auto più grande di quanto non sia adesso (4,24 metri, ndr)? Soprattutto considerando che la Compass, grazie alla piattaforma Stla Medium, dovrebbe crescere di dimensioni…
Sicuramente la nuova Compass diventerà un’auto più grande (l’attuale misura 4,4 metri, ndr). Perciò, tra la nostra segmento C e l’Avenger (4,08 metri), verrà a crearsi un ampio spazio per il secondo modello compatto. Il quale, tra l’altro, sarà venduto anche in America e perciò dovrà avere dimensioni adatte anche a quel mercato.
 
In Europa ci sarà spazio anche per un ritorno della Cherokee?
Anzitutto, qui dobbiamo coprire anzitutto i segmenti B e C. Poi, al livello superiore, avremo una doppia offerta con la Recon e la Wagoneer S: per ora le opzioni sono queste
 

Tra Recon e Wagoneer S, quale arriverà prima?
È possibile che, rispetto agli Stati Uniti, l’ordine s’inverta. E la Recon arrivi per prima in Europa.

Siete sempre dell’idea di farla solo elettrica o, visto l’andazzo del mercato, le intenzioni sono cambiate?
La Recon si può adattare ad altre tipologie di powertrain. Tuttavia, al momento è previsto solo l’elettrico.

Con quelle dimensioni non potrà mai essere basata su Smart Car, oltretutto essendo posizionata più in alto di Avenger.

Smart è troppo cheap per jeep. L'ideale sarebbe la piattaforma small ma pare sia un po' in ritardo. Anche quella dovrebbe avere batterie fino a 87kwh per un bsuv direi più che sufficienti
