NEWARK, CA — November 16, 2023 — Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCID), widely acclaimed for raising the bar in luxury electric vehicles with the award-winning Lucid Air, the recipient of the 2023 World Luxury Car Award, is redefining excellence once again with the reveal of the groundbreaking new Lucid Gravity luxury electric SUV. Lucid’s highly anticipated Gravity SUV builds upon the innovations first seen in the Lucid Air sedan to create a luxury electric SUV without compromise: a high-performance vehicle with space for up to seven adults and their gear and a projected driving range in excess of 440 miles.¹ The Lucid Gravity SUV will make its public debut today during the Los Angeles Auto Show, with production starting in late 2024.

Gravity Design: A Balance of Form and Function

Lucid’s commitment to design excellence, spacious interiors, and versatility further sets Gravity apart from the competition. The exterior design choices are a testament to Gravity’s fusion of aesthetics and utility. A focus on efficiency has led to a target coefficient of drag of less than 0.24,³ an aerodynamic profile unsurpassed by other three-row SUVs. With a commanding presence supported by a substantial frunk, sleek profile, elongated cabin, pronounced shoulders, and sporty tail spoiler, Gravity showcases its ability to meet the diverse needs of the daily driver.

Inside, Gravity impresses with ample and flexible cargo areas. The cabin offers spacious seating, with the added convenience of second and third-row seats that fold flat to reveal more than 112 cubic feet of total usable cargo space for an effortless combination of comfort and cargo capacity. The sliding second row seats combine with integrated convenience tables for an elevated back-seat experience. Remarkable legroom is carried through to the third row, enabling a comfortable seven-passenger configuration, making it the ideal vehicle for every adventure.

Gravity represents a definitive evolution of Lucid’s user interface, called Clearview Cockpit, featuring an intuitive 34-inch curved and uninterrupted OLED display that floats above Gravity’s innovative new steering wheel, closely matched with the driver’s line of sight. Lucid’s Pilot Panel returns in Gravity with a quick access touch bar and sitting alongside a new glass center console that elegantly slides open for additional storage. This SUV also introduces Lucid’s next-generation software with over-the-air updates, ensuring continued vehicle improvement.

Sports Car Performance and Lucid Driving Range
Gravity's exceptional performance starts with a brand new platform developed from the ground up as a sporty SUV. This is seamlessly integrated with the next-generation of Lucid’s proprietary, ultra-compact powertrain technology, including the most power-dense EV motors in production globally, and an evolution of its 900V electrical architecture. Gravity is not just a luxury SUV; it's a powerhouse, accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds while providing a substantial payload capacity of over 1,500 pounds and an additional 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.⁴

With the Gravity SUV, performance extends beyond paved roads as Lucid introduces Zero Gravity, an enhanced optional air suspension package that automatically adapts to various terrain needs, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride on any surface. Manual adjustments also offer the ability to raise Gravity to maximize off-road capability or lower it to maximize performance and range.

Customers can add up to 200 miles of range in about 15 minutes,⁵ ensuring convenience and minimal downtime during long journeys. The US company now expects to produce only 8,000 to 8,500 electric cars in 2023. In May, Lucid had already reduced its production forecast for this year from 10,000 to 14,000 to “more than 10,000” vehicles.

In the first three quarters of 2023, Lucid produced a total of 6,037 EVs, so the company is expecting around 2,000 to 2,500 more vehicles in the fourth quarter. By comparison, production fell to 1,550 units in the third quarter.

According to the recently published quarterly report, Lucid Motors’ turnover from July to September was 137.8 million US dollars, compared to 150.9 million US dollars in the second quarter. Lucid reduced its net loss in Q3 from 764 million to 631 million US dollars compared to Q2.

“We delivered on our commitments to complete the Lucid Air lineup on time with Pure RWD and Sapphire, transition general assembly to our Phase 2 factory in Arizona, and open our first plant in Saudi Arabia. We recognize we still have work to do on our customer journey and deliveries,” said Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s CEO & CTO.

The manufacturer has now announced the presentation of its second model, the Gravity, for 16 November. The electric SUV will go into production at the end of 2024. Lucid also announced the appointment of Marc Winterhoff as Chief Operating Officer (COO) – a newly created position, in which Winterhoff will report to Rawlinson from 4 December.

Un aggiornamento sulle batterie di Lucid, che ricordo essere delle NMC di LG CHEM, che hanno pure preso fuoco in fabbrica. 

 

A dicembre 2022 è stato firmato l'accordo che Panasonic fornirà le batterie a Lucid per la Air e Gravity, a partire dalla metà del 2024, quindi credo che finalmente Lucid avrà batterie sicure. Inizialmente le celle arriveranno dal Giappone, dove c'è sovrapproduzione che ha portato Panosonic a escludere alcune linee di produzione.

 

Quindi su Gravity credo che vedremo fin dall'inizio le Panasonic 2170, quelle che monta anche Tesla, ma prodotte in Nevada.

 

Ma si parla anche di nuove celle cilindriche di maggiori dimensioni e nuova chimica, vedremo.

Initially, the cells will be supplied from Japan where the Japanese manufacturer has 2170-type battery production lines. In the future, Panasonic will supply Lucid with batteries locally produced in the US, at its new factory in De Soto, Kansas (currently under construction).

Panasonic will fulfil that demand for cells initially from its Japanese plant and eventually with cells from a recently announced plant in De Soto, Kansas. The Kansas plant will produce 30 gigawatt-hours of 2170 lithium-ion cells annually, with mass production by March 2025. “As the global shift to EVs accelerates, we are looking into ways to strengthen our battery production capacity in North America and meet the growing demand from our automotive partners,” Tadanobu added.

-Dimensioni da Q7, volumi interni da Escalade (che in EV usa 200 kW, questa intorno ai 120)

-pianale dedicato per Suv, non è quello della Air. (Foto spia di maquette per pick up)

- nuovi motori ancora ridotti di taglia (! Erano già il record!)

- nuova batteria piu compatta (indizio serio sulle Panasonic)

- software apparentemente migliorato da quello con qualche bug della Air.
