Ferrari 575 Challenge Stradale & Berlinetta

Ferrari are planning to introduce two new limited edition sports cars based on the 575M Maranello next year.

The first of these two cars will be a stripped-out Challenge Stradale version, continuing in theme from the successful 360 Challenge Stradale, with styling touches reminiscent of the successful 575 GTC FIA GT race car.

The second is more intriguing, with a folding electro chromatic glass roof along the principle of Fioravanti's LF concept. Initially presented by Leonardo Fioravanti on his Alfa Romeo Vola concept at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari have adopted the idea for use on their future drop-top models including next year's F430 Spider.

Italiaspeed first revealed that Ferrari was trialling the innovative Fioravanti roof concept back in March this year.

The 100% glazed roof section simply folds back along an axis behind the doors so that it can rest on top of the boot. Other than for the obvious reason of maximum luggage space at all times, another advantage of the system lies in its simple and light-weight structure. The system can also be used on a rear mid-engined layout.

A prototype of the 575 with this roof design was presented secretively to a crowd of potential customers during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance on 12 August. Although the presentation was held in a highly secured area, with guards standing on either side of the car, information was provided regarding the car's technical specification and production future.

The electro chromatic glass section has five tint settings, including the possibility for having it 100% opaque. For security reasons, this opaque setting will also automatically feature when the car is parked and locked.

A limited run of 500 examples will be built, whilst the engine has been developed to produce 540 bhp. In the meantime, Ferrari are working out issues regarding dust and debris build up on the glass.

It is rumoured that the new car will be called 575 Berlinetta, whilst prices are anticipated to lie at around USD $325,000.

Available as an option on the 575 Berlinetta will be the GTC handling pack, including 19" wheels, Brembo CCM carbon-ceramic brakes, uprated suspension, faster F1 gearbox and throatier exhaust note.

Both special-edition 575 models are expected to make their public debut at the 2005 Detroit Motor Show.

Ferrari have adopted the Fioravanti LF roof concept for use on their future drop-top models. It will debut on the special edition 575 Berlinetta model.

visto che parla successivamente del gtc handling pack, si potrebbe intendere che è una versione più "estrema"..

certo che chi ha scritto l'articolo non si è accorto che una vettura aperta non si potrà certo chiamare "berlinetta".... semmai "barchetta"?

Poi fare una challenge Stradale con v12 sara spetaculare.
