The Brand Group Core within the Volkswagen Group – the organizational unit including the volume brands Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT&CUPRA and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – is strategically reorienting its production and establishing a high-performance regional production network. #Brands As a first step, André Kleb, to date Head of Planning and Production Technology of the Volkswagen brand, is to assume responsibility for the regional management of production and logistics as the Chief Production Officer for the Iberian Peninsula with effect from January 1, 2026. In the spirit of overall cross-brand responsibility, this newly created function will report to Christian Vollmer, Member of the Board of Management for Production & Logistics of the Volkswagen brand and member of the extended Group Executive Board, and also to Markus Haupt, CEO SEAT&CUPRA. The new structure for the Iberian Peninsula will include all the plants of the Volkswagen Group in Spain and Portugal. Overarching functions such as central planning, production steering, project and start-of-production management as well as logistics will be anchored within the regional management. In connection with the reorganization, Thomas Hegel Gunther, currently Managing Director and plant manager of Volkswagen Autoeuropa, is to succeed André Kleb as new Head of Planning and Production Technology of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand in Wolfsburg. Anabel Andión Lomero, to date the Head of the Pre-Series Center at SEAT&CUPRA in Spain, will become Managing Director and plant manager of Volkswagen Autoeuropa in Portugal with effect from March 1, 2026. This new team is also to include Anabel Andión Lomero as the future Managing Director of Volkswagen Autoeuropa. She played a key role in the establishment of the Vorseriencenter (VSC) at SEAT&CUPRA, which is the starting point for the start of production of the Electric Urban Car Family. She will contribute her specialist expertise from the overarching VSC and from past cooperation projects to the Palmela plant in the future. Under the management of Thomas Hegel Gunther, the Palmela plant has been transformed into one of the most efficient production locations of the Volkswagen brand over the past few years. Christian Vollmer: “Following the successful start of production of the new T-Roc, now is the right time to benefit from Thomas Hegel Gunther’s expertise for the introduction of efficient production structures. He will therefore play a key role as the new Head of Planning and Production Technology.” Improved competitiveness and efficiency in automobile production The new BGC Future Production Governance management model with 22 locations is characterized by lean processes in the plants supported by high-performance central functions. Within this system, the regions will become more independent, more efficient and more flexible. The objective is to ensure a sustained long-term improvement in the competitiveness of BGC-automobile production with cross-brand steering and regional responsibility to master the future challenges. The production and logistics business area will be setting new standards within the Volkswagen Group and the industry. Biographic details André Kleb joined Volkswagen after completing his degree in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Brunswick. Thanks to his many years of experience in international start-of-production and project management, he is extremely well networked at the plants. He has worked in various responsible management functions within production in Germany and other countries, including positions as Head of Plant Planning at Pamplona, Spain, and Wolfsburg. Since 2021, he has been Head of Vehicle Project Management, Planning and Production Technology of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. Anabel Andión Lomero joined the test production department of SEAT&CUPRA in 2001. From 2005 to 2008, she was responsible for order management at the prototype center of SEAT&CUPRA and then managed various projects at the prototype center and in start-of-production management at Martorell up to 2012. In 2018 she was appointed as Head of Digital Production at the Pre-Series Center of AUDI AG in Ingolstadt. Since 2020, she has been Head of the Vorseriencenter at SEAT&CUPRA. Thomas Hegel Gunther joined Volkswagen AG as an international trainee in 2000. From 2001 to 2004, he worked in the body shop at Wolfsburg. In 2005, he was appointed Assistant to the Board Member, Components. From 2007 to 2013, he worked in various management positions in the Components business area. In 2013, he became Head of the Plastics Business Unit. In 2015, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of SITECH Sp. z o.o. in Polkowice (Poland) and Speaker of the Management Board of SITECH Sitztechnik GmbH. In 2018, he became Head of Production Control and Logistics of the Volkswagen Brand. He has been Managing Director of Volkswagen Autoeuropa in Portugal since 2021. (VW-Group)

  9. China's CATL breaks ground on huge Spanish battery plant - bringing its own workers FIGUERUELAS, Spain (Reuters) -China's CATL will start building Spain's largest battery factory on Wednesday, a 4.1-billion-euro ($4.8 billion) project with Stellantis that highlights Europe's reliance on Chinese technology even as Brussels seeks to tighten trade rules. The plant in Figueruelas, a town of 1,300 people in northeastern Aragon, is backed by over 300 million euros in EU funds and expected to begin production in late 2026. Around 2,000 Chinese workers will help construct the site, with 3,000 Spanish staff to be hired and trained later, unions said. "We don't know this technology, these components - we've never made them before," said David Romeral, director general of CAAR Aragon, a network of automotive businesses in Aragon. "They're years ahead of us. All we can do is watch and learn." CHEAPER LABOUR, CHEAPER ENERGY Spain, Europe's second-largest carmaker, is positioning itself as a battery hub thanks to lower labour costs and industrial energy prices about 20% below the EU average. Three more plants are planned, including projects by Envision AESC, Volkswagen's PowerCo, and InoBat. But technical know-how remains a challenge. “Before it was mostly German technology, and now it’s Chinese. What difference does it make? Here in Spain, what we offered was always labour,” said Roque Ordovás Mangirón, a Stellantis shipping manager. The regional government says it is organising work permits for the new arrivals, while also "working intensely" to draw more of the battery supply chain to the region. Europe's auto associations are pushing for stricter requirements on local sourcing of components in part to protect them from Chinese rivals, as the European Commission prepares to unveil a new set of measures to bolster the sector. THEY 'KNOW HOW TO MAKE A GIGAFACTORY' Some Chinese technicians and managers have already arrived in Figueruelas. Several hundred more will follow by year-end, with just under 2,000 expected by the end of next year, CATL has said. CATL's approach contrasts with its Hungarian site in Debrecen, where it has hired mostly locals to build its largest European plant, but recruitment has lagged targets, according to unions, and production has been delayed to 2026 from late 2025. "They are the ones who know how to make a gigafactory," said Jose Juan Arceiz, secretary general of union UGT in Aragon, adding unions were waiting for skill requirements from CATL to set up training programmes with the local university. "As the plant ramps up, there will be more jobs for Spanish workers," he said. "This project needs to succeed, and everyone has to do their part." (globalbankingandfinance)

  11. Leapmotor Technology Senior Vice President, Cao Li, recently offered a glimpse of the upcoming B10/Lafa 5 Ultra, sharing real-world images of the vehicle on social media. The Lafa 5 Ultra is anticipated to be a high-performance variant of the standard Lafa 5, which is scheduled for launch on November 28. The more potent Ultra version is slated for a market debut in the second quarter of 2026. The Lafa 5 Ultra’s front fascia features an added front splitter and a prominent, outward-jutting front lip, finished in a sleek black gloss. Along the vehicle’s lower doors, new side skirts have been integrated, complementing the black wheels. The rear of the Lafa 5 Ultra is equipped with a sporty rear wing and a bold diffuser integrated into the lower bumper. While official details regarding the Lafa 5 Ultra’s interior and powertrain remain under wraps, the extended development timeline – with its launch pushed back by half a year compared to the standard Lafa 5 – suggests it will be more than just an aesthetic package. Industry observers quoted by Autohome speculate that the Ultra variant will indeed be a performance model, potentially featuring a dual-motor setup for superior power output. (CNC)
  13. Hyundai vende lo stabilmento cinese di Chongqing alla Changan "Changan takes over former Hyundai factory in China Changan has taken over a Beijing Hyundai factory in Chongqing and will use it to produce vehicles for its Deepal brand in future. The main aim is to increase production capacity, as Changan is reaching its limits. The background to this is said to be the growth plans of Changan and Deepal. In 2024, production capacity was still at 2.25 million vehicles, but Changan’s sales target for 2025 is three million vehicles. According to The Economic Observer, Changan’s production is operating at 84 per cent capacity, which is a fairly good figure, and leaves little room for improvement. Beijing Hyundai, a Chinese joint venture between Hyundai and BAIC, announced the factory in Chongqing in 2015 as the joint venture’s fifth plant at the time and started production at the end of 2017. Just four years later, in December 2021, Beijing Hyundai had already shut down production at the plant, which cost over a billion dollars at the time – the plant’s capacity is 300,000 vehicles. Hyundai invested heavily in China several years ago, but the hoped-for success failed to materialise – Hyundai somewhat missed the boat when it came to the trend towards electric mobility in China, as the Hyundai EO, the Group’s first electric car designed exclusively for China, only went on sale this year. Initially, Hyundai and its sister brand Kia tried unsuccessfully to market electric versions of their combustion engine models in China. Since then, various plans have been made and then scrapped. Changan, which was ‘promoted’ to state-owned car manufacturer in China in the summer, is not the first domestic manufacturer to take over a poorly utilised joint venture factory: in 2021, Li Auto had already taken over a Beijing Hyundai plant in Beijing. And just this November, another Chinese manufacturer, Geely, took over a SAIC-GM plant in Shenyang in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning. Changan has big plans for its electric brand Deepal: with the S05 and S07, two electric SUVs are also set to enter the German market. " (elecdrive.net)
