Inviato 26 minuti fa China exported 5.22 million cars, worth 101.6 billion USD, in 2023, ranking first in the world. According to data from China Customs, China’s automobile (including chassis) exports will exceed 5.22 million units in 2023. Export volume exceeded 101.6 billion USD, and export volume and value broke historical records. From a market perspective, Chinese brand cars have been exported to more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. They considered that China’s total exports in 2023 will be USD 3.38 trillion, a decrease of 4.6%. The increase in automobile exports directly contributed to 1.2% of China’s exports. As background, in 2023, China’s automobile production and sales will exceed 30 million units, setting historical records. According to customs data compiled by CPCA, China ranks first in the world in both quantity and value of automobile exports. Specifically, China’s automobile exports were 5.22 million units from January to December 2023, with an export growth rate of 57%. Japanese car exports from January to November were 3.99 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 15%. The annual export volume in 2023 is expected to be approximately 4.3 million vehicles. BYD’s first transport ship EXPLORER NO.1 has been delivered and left the port On January 9, BYD‘s inaugural car roll-off carrier, BYD EXPLORER NO.1, was delivered and set sail from Yantai, Shandong, marking the first addition to BYD’s “sea fleet.” The 7,000-space car carrier, constructed by CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, was commissioned to the international shipping company Zodiac Maritime and is exclusively leased to BYD. With a total length of 199.9 meters, a width of 38 meters, a design draft of 8.6 meters, a design speed of 19 knots, and a loading capacity of 7,000 vehicles, BYD EXPLORER NO.1 is gearing up for its journey to Shenzhen Xiaomo Port, where it will load trucks before embarking on its voyage to Europe. Notably, BYD EXPLORER NO.1 is the first car transport ship manufactured by a Chinese shipyard explicitly intended to export Chinese automobiles. Regarding propulsion, the ship is equipped with two sets of C-type LNG storage tanks. Utilizing liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the primary fuel for its main engine and generators, the vessel boasts environmentally friendly features, significantly reducing nitrogen and sulfur oxides emissions. With a maximum cruising range of 15,800 nautical miles, BYD EXPLORER NO.1 combines efficiency with sustainability. BYD’s transport ship plan BYD’s foray into the maritime sector became public knowledge in December of the previous year, breaking its silence on shipbuilding and acquisitions. The company confirmed its ship acquisition plans, revealing the chartering of two roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) carriers from Yantai, Shandong, with expected delivery in 2024. Reports from October of the same year had hinted at BYD’s intentions, citing sources that an affiliate of BYD aimed to order eight ro-ro ships, capable of carrying 7,700 vehicles each, at a shipyard in Yantai. This ambitious venture’s estimated total cost was nearly 5 billion yuan (approximately 700 million USD). Six ships were purportedly confirmed for construction, with the remaining two designated as optional orders. At that time, BYD chose not to respond directly to these reports. The introduction of BYD EXPLORER NO.1 signals a significant milestone for BYD as it enters the maritime transport domain, contributing to the export of BYD EVs to international markets. (CNC)

PARIS – The Renault brand is banking on new models and a price cut for its Megane E-Tech full-electric compact hatchback to help in its battle against Tesla on its home turf, a top sales executive said. "The Renault brand's main focus in 2024 is to go back on the offensive in the electric segment, since we're currently second," Ivan Segal, Renault brand's sales director for France, said in an interview with Reuters. A pioneer in the electric vehicle market alongside alliance partner Nissan in the past, Renault has been overtaken by new rivals. While the French automaker sold nearly 18,000 electric Meganes last year in its domestic market, Tesla sold 25,000 Model 3s and more than 37,000 Model Ys, leading the French EV market, according to the data firm AAA Data. And China's MG brand sold 20,000 MG4 compact hatchbacks in its first full year on the French market. Renault's counterattack includes the launch of the new electric Scenic, a compact SUV, and the arrival in the second half of the year of the R5 small hatchback, whiich will take over from the aging Zoe. Renault, which refrained last year from following Tesla's price cuts, has decided to reduce the starting price of the Megane (with a 40-kilowatt-hour battery) by 10 percent in January, dropping from 38,000 euros ($41,600) to 34,000 euros before incentives. Factoring in a 5,000-euro state EV bonus that does not apply to buyers of the Model 3 and the MG4 because they are made in China, the Megane is widening the gap with Tesla and is even slightly cheaper the MG4. The Megane is also competing against compact EVs from Stellantis, the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra, that were launched last year, although they are somewhat more expensive. Volkswagen has also recently cut prices in many European countries for its ID line of EVs. The Megane E-Tech was launched in early 2022 at a price of 35,200 euros for the base model with the 40-kWh battery (a 60-kWh battery is available). Since then, Renault has revised the smaller-battery version with more standard equipment. "The competition in terms of pricing or leasing is stronger than a few months ago, and it will take a few more years for the electric vehicle market to stabilize," Segal said.

Turkish EV maker Togg expands lineup, eyes Germany debut in late 2024 The T10F fastback joins the startup's debut model, the T10X SUV, as Togg looks to expand into Europe. LAS VEGAS -- The Turkish EV startup Togg will double the size of its lineup by adding the T10F fastback, which will be sold alongside its debut model, the T10X SUV. Starting in late 2024 the company, which was founded in 2018 and currently sells only in its home market, aims to start selling both models in Germany, beginning with the SUV. Togg also plans to quickly add sales in other European markets, including France, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden. The company did not provide timing or a cadence of the debuts in the other four markets, but it has set a goal of having 1 million vehicles on the road across Europe by 2032. "The launch of the T10F marks a defining moment for Togg, showcasing our unwavering commitment to transform the mobility landscape," the company's CEO, Gurcan Karakas, said in a release. Togg didn't release prices for the T10F, but they are expected to align with the SUV, which starts at the equivalent of 45,000 euros for the base model and rises to 57,320 euros for the long-range variant. Togg debuted a near-production version of the T10F at the CES technology show here Tuesday. It is the third consecutive appearance at the show for the company, which prefers to call its models "smart devices." Like the SUV, the fastback is a compact-sized model. Both models are made on Togg's C-segment (compact) platform. The T10F will have three variants -- two rear-wheel drive and one all-wheel drive. The RWD models offer a range of either 350 or 600 km while the AWD derivative's range is 530 km, according to the company's in-house testing based on WLTP guidelines. The AWD variant offers the model family's best performance as its dual electric motors provide 320 kilowatts (the equivalent of nearly 430 hp), which helps propel the T10F from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds. The RWD models have a 160 kW (215 hp) single electric motor. All variants have a drag coefficient below 0.23. The RWD models will be offered with a battery capacity of 52.4 or 88.5 kilowatt hours. The AWD version also has an 88.5-kWh battery. All three variants can get charged from 20 to 80 percent in 28 minutes and each can be used as an external power supply. Customers have the option of picking V1 or V2 equipment options, with V2 enabling more advanced autonomous features and safety systems, the company said. Aiming for a top safety score Togg uses a monocoque chassis made of advanced high-strength steel to help protect occupants and the key components such as the battery pack. The company said the model has been engineered to achieve EuroNCAP's top safety rating of five stars. To get to that level the T10F will offer a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that includes intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality that works in conjunction with a traffic sign detection system; lane-keeping capability and lane-departure warning; a surround-view camera; blind spot and driver attention warning systems, and automatic parking assist. The T10F will also feature Togg’s Rush Hour Pilot, which provides hands-free control of the car in heavy traffic at speeds of up to 15 kph (less than 10 mph) as long as there is a vehicle in front. This feature is available on T10F models with the V2 equipment level. The fastback has a 2890 mm wheelbase, ground clearance of 155 mm, and weighs between 1939 and 2215 kg, depending on the specification. Togg said that the design of the T10F and T10X are the result of its design studio's collaboration with the Italian styling specialist Pininfarina. The silhouette and body lines of the T10F mirror that of the T10X, but the creative team adjusted the maximum height and overhangs of the fastback to give it more sporty proportions. (ANE)
