L'80% destinato all'esportazione.

  3. Maserati goes quiet on Alfieri - Motoring.com.au http://www.motoring.com.au/maserati-goes-quiet-on-alfieri-101611/

    Quote

Maserati is deflecting questions on both its 911-rivalling Alfieri and its much trumpeted later decade sales target of 75,000 units per annum.

At least that’s the conclusion we’ve drawn following brand boss Harald Wester’s refusal to confirm timetables for Maserati’s new sportscar and the company’s sales targets.

Two months after Maserati revealed its stunning Alfieri super-coupe at the 2014 Geneva motor show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss Sergio Marchonne outlined his five-year plan for the company.

In it, he promised a six-model Maserati family by 2018, when the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, the all-new Levante SUV, all-new Alfieri coupe and cabriolet and a replacement for the GranTurismo would reap annual global sales of 75,000.

Although exact model timings were vague, Maserati’s business plan and senior executives indicated the Alfieri – its first direct rival for the Porsche 911 – would be released as early as this year, followed by the convertible version in 2017 and the new GranTurismo in 2018.

“I sincerely can’t say that we’ll see this car in production in two years’ time, but I’m certain we’ll see something very similar,” said project leader Lorenzo Ramaciotti at Geneva in 2014.

Now, two years later at the 2016 Geneva show, Maserati chief Harald Wester refused to answer questions about the Alfieri, design work on which began in mid-2013 at Maserati Centro Stile in Turin.

“I don’t know. I need to talk to my people,” said Wester when asked if the Alfieri project was running to schedule.

Asked if the Alfieri will be launched next year, he said: “No comment”.

When pressed on when we’ll see the production Alfieri, Wester suggested that replacements for the GranTurismo and GranCabrio would appear next from Maserati.

“The next one will be substitution of GranTursimo, GranCabrio by successors.

“We already had discussion about Alfieri and I don’t want to go into details,” he said.

Asked is the GranCabrio’s replacement would again be a four-seat convertible based on the new GranTurismo, rather than an open-top version of the two-seat Alfieri coupe as Maserati previously indicated, he said: “We never disclosed details of the convertible.

“We always said we have Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, sports car, grand tourer and a convertible. We never told anybody whether the convertible is two, or 2+2 or four-seat car. I’ve no intention to tell you.

“At this point my personal opinion is I think we talk too much about the future. Nobody else does, so I confirm what we said, that’s it. You guys are just too curious.”

Wester said Maserati was still committed to reaching 75,000 annual global sales, but wouldn’t say when.

“I don’t know. I don’t care whether it gets there in [20]17, or 18 or January of 19.

“What I care about is that it gets there protecting what it stands for.

“If we go there because we are outselling some of our products trying to compete with our rivals even in the premium segment, [then] I disagree.”

Wester said Maserati’s near-term plan to sell 50,000 vehicles (up from 32,500 global sales last year) will be achieved in 2017 — two years later than forecast after the Levante was switched from a Jeep platform to Maserati’s own, delaying production until last month.

“Our 50,000 volume forecasts were always dependent on the SUV.

“In 2011 we said Levante would be late 2013 in the US and we would have availability fully by 2014 or 2015.

“At the end of long discussions we decided to abandon the pan. We shifted Levante to Italy, we needed a new factory and it was also obvious due to the shift, we needed to review styling.

“That led to the current start of production in 2016. It will give us a boost this year. I expect this number to grow significantly beyond last year.

“With full availability of Levante in 2016 — because the ramp-up is not like a mass producer — with full availability of all versions, in all markets we will have in 2017, the 50,000 target will be for sure achieved in 2017.”

Maserati sold less than 600 cars in Australia last year and its forecast of 1000 local sales was alsopredicated on the Levante — first deliveries of which are scheduled to take place late this year. The brand expects around 1500 sales once all variants of the renewed model range are available here.

Wester said there is “no risk” that Maserati’s first SUV will dilute the century-old Italian sports car brand, which is now effectively Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ ‘new Ferrari’ following the sale of the Prancing Horse brand.

“SUV is the only $US50,000-plus luxury segment growing,” he said.

“These type of cars account for 540,000 to 550,000 out of 1.1 million – SUV is as big as everything else together. That gives you an answer how important this product is.

“The only thing where all researchers more or less have a common consensus is that SUV segments will further grow – small ones and big ones.

“In a world of 90 million scars there is no risk at all. That 50,000 out of 90 million – that is a drop in the ocean. It is parts per million, not percentages. The brand has room [to grow], but to get there in a natural way. [We will] Never violate this.”

In other future model news, Wester did not rule out the possibility Maserati could apply the Mistrale name to a V8 version of the Ghibli, which would rival the BMW M5, and a more powerful Quattroporte V8. But he denied it would have anything to do with allowing Audi to use the Q2 and Q4 names.

“Q2, Q4 are proprietary names of Alfa and Maserati,” he said.

There was a request from VW Group to help them out of a dilemma for the extension of the Q series of Audi, so we allowed them to use in the future Q2 and Q4 for potentially new crossover models of the Audi range.

“They can do this but we will not give up our Q2 and Q4 names.

“The only owner of the Mistrale name I think is a surfboard company, it’s nothing to do with VW.”

Asked if Maserati has investigated the Mistrale name for its potential use as a performance sub-brand, he said: “No, not yet.”

  4. LA MOTOR SHOW: Alfa to debut Stelvio SUV in LA

    Quote

    (...)

“We announced – and this is going to be presented I would say in one of the important auto shows in Autumn – a more compact SUV for Alfa Romeo and this is also part of the answer,” he told motoring.com.au.

“If you are a group and you have 10 brands like we have, not every brand can do a little bit of everything. So for the time being this is a segment which we don’t target right now for Maserati, and we said this very clearly from the beginning.

“We already carry the segment with the Jeep Cherokee.

“We will have an additional product in the segment with the new Alfa, to be presented in late Autumn this year, and for the time being there are no plans for Maserati to further extend our range downwards in the more compact SUV segment.”(...)

  5. Alfa Romeo product plans leave room for a new sports car

    Quote

Alfa Romeo could still insert a sports car or convertible into its new-model programme over the next two years, the company’s boss has suggested.

The Italian brand recently realigned its product plan, nudging back some plans from 2018 to the end of the current decade. The priorities after the new Giulia executive saloon are two SUVs - the first due to be unveiled later this year, the second in 2018 - and a replacement for the existing Giulietta. It’s expected to arrive in 2017, and to feature a rear-wheel-drive layout - achieved through the use of a shortened Giulia platform - that is unusual for a family hatchback.

However, Alfa and Maserati boss Harald Wester has revealed that there remains scope for additional models to be added in the same time frame. When asked if Alfa was considering a rear-drive GT or convertible, he said, “Just because cars aren’t on the list for the next couple of years doesn’t mean that they can’t be slipped into the schedule.”

The new Giulia’s platform and engine line-up are both said to be modular enough for much shorter vehicles - and stretchable to produce larger models. Wester suggested that the range-topping Giulia’s twin-turbocharged V6 could be boosted well beyond its current 503bhp, but for “something bigger”.

Wester also revealed that the 4C could receive upgrades - including a larger, more powerful engine. The Giulia has a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor within its line-up; Wester confirmed that the 200bhp will be ramped up to 280bhp for a later edition - and that it could fit into the 4C’s engine bay. “We don’t have a definite plan at the moment, but that engine would work with that car,” he said. “The 4C will be around for some time and there are lots of possibilities to develop it further.”

Aston Martin unveils the DB11: the latest in an illustrious bloodline

    1 March 2016, Geneva:

A new chapter in Aston Martin’s history began at the 86th International Geneva Motor Show with the unveiling of the DB11. The first product launched under the company’s ‘Second Century’ plan, DB11 is the bold new figurehead of the illustrious ‘DB’ bloodline and an authentic, dynamic sporting GT in the finest Aston Martin tradition. The DB11 showcases a fresh and distinctive design language, pioneering aerodynamics and is powered by a potent new in-house designed 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine. Built upon a new lighter, stronger, and more space efficient bonded aluminium structure, DB11 is the most powerful, most efficient and most dynamically gifted DB model in Aston Martin’s history. As such, it is the most significant new Aston Martin since the introduction of the DB9 in 2003. Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer said: “We aspire to make the most beautiful cars in the world. DB11 is the absolute embodiment of what an Aston Martin should be and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that DB11 combines both exceptional design with the latest technology throughout. A brand new bonded aluminium platform, clever aerodynamics, a new characterful twin-turbo V12 and class-leading infotainment systems are just a few aspects which make this the sports car that will proudly spearhead Aston Martin’s second century plan.” Heralding a new design era for Aston Martin, DB11 is the latest landmark in a remarkable aesthetic journey; one that gave us icons such as the DB2/4, DB5 and, most recently, the DB10 developed specifically for James Bond. DB11 re-imagines the relationship between form and function with a series of fresh design signatures. Foremost amongst these are the front-hinging clamshell bonnet, distinctive LED headlights and accentuated lines of the iconic Aston Martin grille. The profile is equally dramatic, thanks to the roof strakes that flow uninterrupted from A-pillar to C-pillar. The clean lines continue at the rear, with a sloping decklid that smoothly blends into boldly sculpted taillights to create a new and unmistakable graphic. Innovative aerodynamics play their part in this aesthetic revolution with clever management of airflow both over and through the bodywork aiding stability while preserving the DB11’s uncluttered surfaces. Front-end lift is reduced by the gill-like Curlicue which releases high-pressure air from inside the wheel arch via a concealed vent within the redesigned side-strake. Meanwhile, rear-end lift is reduced by the Aston Martin AeroBladeTM; a virtual spoiler fed by discreet air intakes located at the base of each C-pillar. Air is ducted through the bodywork, before venting as a jet of air from the aperture in the rear decklid. Like every Aston Martin, the heart of the DB11 is found beneath the bonnet, though unlike any Aston Martin before it, the DB11’s heart is a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12. Designed in-house this new engine develops 608PS1 (600BHP1 ) and 700Nm1 of torque, making DB11 the most powerful production DB model ever. Naturally, it’s the most dynamic and most accelerative too, with a top speed of 200mph1 and a 0-62mph time of just 3.9sec1 . Thanks to intelligent bank activation and stop-start technology that potency is matched by greatly improved efficiency. To exploit the advantages of its new body structure and harness the immense performance of the new twin-turbo V12 engine, the DB11’s chassis, suspension, steering and electronics have been re-imagined and key new technologies embraced. Multiple driver-selectable dynamic modes - GT, Sport and Sport Plus - progressively intensify the response of the engine, 8-speed automatic ZF transmission together with the new electric power steering and Torque Vectoring by braking while increasing the firmness of the adaptive damping for a greater sense of agility. The result is a driving experience that combines exemplary ride comfort and true sports car agility, for an extraordinary breadth of dynamic capability. As a true 21st century Aston Martin the DB11 combines the very latest technology developed in conjunction with technical partner, Daimler AG, with the finest quality and hand craftsmanship. Using a full-colour 12” TFT LCD display, the all-new instrument cluster presents primary vehicle information with absolute clarity, while a second, centrally-mounted 8” TFT screen is dedicated to infotainment. Controlled via an intuitive rotary control, with an optional touchpad offering character recognition, multi-touch and gesture support, the new satellite navigation and audio system have never been more effective, sounded better or been easier to operate. A newly implemented autopark assist feature and 360-degree birds-eye view camera helps provide safe maneuvering at slow speeds and is also operated via the car’s infotainment system. With wider door apertures, significantly increased occupant space - especially head and legroom in the rear - fully integrated rear ISOFIX mounting points for a pair of child seats plus a luggage compartment large enough to accommodate two large holdalls plus carry-on baggage, the DB11 is a genuine Grand Tourer. Thanks to an inspiring palette of colours and a vast array of detailing options, its interior can be perfectly in-tune with your unique personal style. From calming, carefully co-ordinated tones to sharp contrasts in hue and texture, your choices are virtually limitless. Nexus quilting and Celestial perforation add layers of beautiful complexity and intrigue, while ornate leatherwork, such as intricate brogue detailing, creates areas of visual and tactile delight. Dr Andy Palmer said: ““This is not only the most important car that Aston Martin has launched in recent history, but also in its 103-year existence. The DB11 rightfully places Aston Martin once again as a leading brand in the luxury automotive market”. Recommended Retail Price from £154,900 in the UK2 , €204,900 in Germany2 and $211,995 in USA3 , first deliveries of the DB11 car are scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2016.

    DS E-Tense Concept

A year after the official launch of the brand, DS Automobiles is unveiling the head-turning DS E-TENSE at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, an electric-powered Supercar that silently produces 516Nm of torque, 402hp and zero emissions.

Measuring 4.72m long and 1.29m high, DS's ambition with the DS E-TENSE is to create a high-performance electric GT car that brings together state-of-the-art technology and avant-garde design.

    AVANT-GARDE DESIGN MEETS CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

All those who set eyes on the DS E-TENSE will instantly notice its unique styling, flowing lines and sense of perpetual motion. With the silhouette of a grand tourer coupé emphasised by a central chrome-plated spine and an exclusive metallic green ametrine body colour, the DS E-TENSE evokes one simple desire, and that is to be driven.

DS applied its avant-garde design styling to this vehicle and similar to the Divine DS, removed the rear windscreen at the back, giving the design team a huge amount of freedom to mould its contours and make use of digital rear-view technology.

A unique DS trademark feature, the front and rear lights were the object of scrupulous attention, with the DS LED Vision headlamps that are jewel-like in design. The daytime running lights - picked out as if in beaded stitches, a nod to the world of high fashion - accentuate the car's expressive gaze. At the rear, the indicators integrated into the roof are inspired by the original DS from 1955. Finally, the light signature's show-stoppers are the tail lights: equipped with full LED technology and scale-like in design, they seem to spring to life whenever the car is in use, setting the trend for future DS models.

    2016 DS E-Tense Concept

As for the car's interior, it is an example of the alchemy that occurs when French savoir-faire is combined with superior materials. DS upholsterers took 800 hours to design, test and produce the interior, with particular emphasis on the upgraded watchstrap style design on the seats and dashboard. Other noteworthy features include the cold steel used for the dashboard, creating a futuristic look, and the strongly marked tulip-shape of the steering wheel.

DS JOINS FORCES WITH LEADING FRENCH LUXURY BRANDS

To raise this interior to new heights of sophistication, bespoke accessories have been created in collaboration with French luxury brands - products born of skills that embody the DS values in every respect.

    A helmet harness by Moynat

The artistic director of Moynat came up with this unique object by drawing inspiration from the Y-shaped straps that used to secure the trunk, thus holding the spare tyre to the back of an automobile. The harness consists of two main handles made of natural calfskin with a staining that will become deeper and more lustrous with age. Inside, there is a supple leather pouch. Entirely hand-made by highly skilled craftsman, the harness seamlessly perpetuates the venerable tradition of French fine leather goods. Its function is multipurpose: it can be fastened securely to the driver's seat in such a way that absolute safety is guaranteed, but it can also be removed and has been designed to carry a helmet in a practical yet elegant way, so doubles as a bag about town.

A one-off edition watch by BRM Chronographers

Watchmaking technology is refined to its very essence in this timepiece specifically designed for the driver of the DS E-TENSE. It can be worn on the wrist or affixed to the car's central console. The case is angled at 90° so that the time is viewable while driving.

A first-class audio system by Focal

A silent car doesn't mean that sound is not a crucial consideration. For an exclusive experience, 9 Focal Utopia high-fidelity loudspeakers transform the interior of the DS E-TENSE into an auditorium to satisfy the most demanding listeners. Top-of-the-range speakers utilising highly sophisticated technology are a reflection of the car itself.

DS has taken an unprecedented approach in choosing to build partnerships with companies rarely seen on the automotive stage.

    ADVANCED TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS WORKING TOGETHER

As a Formula E World Championship competitor, DS Automobiles has equipped its latest creation with a 100% electric 402hp engine that produces 516Nm of torque, delivering propulsion that is clean, silent, but above all efficient and powerful. Add the 310km mixed cycle range (or 360km urban cycle) and the DS E-TENSE takes its rightful place among the ranks of high-performance GTs.

The lithium-ion batteries are situated under the car's chassis, which keeps the centre of gravity low and enables even torque distribution between the axles.

    Features developed using parametric design

Following close behind the DS 4 Concept, it was the DS E-TENSE's turn to see certain elements take shape through the use of an innovative and avant-garde design method. Already established in couture and architecture spheres, parametric tools enable surface and volume to be generated in a unique way.

There is no better example of this than the DS E-TENSE's dashboard, sculpted to futuristic effect. Likewise the radiator grille at the front, also a product of parametric design but here used in conjunction with 3D printing.

Making the move from DS LED VISION to DS ACTIVE LED VISION

A concept car represents a road map for the future. The DS E-TENSE takes DS LED Vision - a hallmark of all current DS vehicles - to the next level, making it active. All the LED modules are worked into the design in a way that a jeweller or watchmaker would practice their craft. They now rotate at 180°. Furthermore there is a welcome mode for the driver, and most importantly new features including a high-way function for motorway driving and a weather function that widens the beam in rain, snow and fog. DS ACTIVE LED VISION pushes back the outer edges of darkness for an ultimately safe drive.

State-of-the-art technology, evidence of remarkable attention to detail

The car presents other examples of the latest technology, such as digital rear vision that works with the camera at the back, or the innovative "clean cabin" filtration system that works with the air conditioning to provide active protection for passengers. The system continuously identifies, analyses and filters exterior pollutants in order to purify the air in the cabin.

    AUTOMOTIVE PASSION MEETS HIGH-TECH EFFICIENCY

A unique creation, for people who want to give free rein to their passion for cars, without compromising on driveability or performance… this is what DS E-TENSE represents.

The two-seater monocoque chassis is manufactured from carbon fibre and equipped with independent superimposed double wishbone suspension. As the batteries are located beneath the floor, the centre of gravity is low, allowing the car to handle with rigour, precision and verve, all in total safety (especially given the even torque distribution between the axles). Meanwhile, the streamlined silhouette, the carbon fibre diffuser and the flat underbody all contribute significantly to its aerodynamic performance. The specially developed Michelin tyres (able to sustain the high torque electric powertrain) are also noteworthy for the safe and comfortable drive they guarantee, even at top speeds.

This safety and comfort is facilitated by high-definition digital instrumentation: a 12-inch digital handset is coupled with a 10-inch touchscreen. The ergonomic design of the controls is efficient and intuitive, thanks to an electronic system developed in collaboration with Coyote.
