Ferrari wins Eyes on Design award FXX prototype singled out by jury at Detroit Auto Show (ANSA) - Detroit, January 11 - The Ferrari FXX has won the Eyes on Design Award at the North American International Automobile Show here for being the best example of function design . The FXX was chosen by a jury of 17 leading designers including Chris Bangle, director of BMW's style center, Harley Davidson's style chief William Davidson and Shiro Nakamura, head of design at Nissan . According to the panel, the FXX "best expresses the functionality of design as a means to reach the objective for which the car was developed" . The FXX, which Ferrari considers the most technologically advanced GT car ever to emerge from Maranello, is a prototype reserved for only 29 of Ferrari's top clients . Ferrari said the FXX will be used exclusively on track as part of a specific ongoing research and development program which for the first time will involve Client Test Drivers. At present there are no plans to develop the FXX for road use and racing activities . According to Ferrari, the FXX will provide the basic framework on which future extreme models will be developed. It is powered by an imposing 6262cc V12 engine which can deliver 800 hp at 8500 rpm . The FXX's gearbox is the based on Formula 1 technology and the car is in fact almost as fast as the race cars . The car's aerodynamic design allows for a 40% increase in downforce compared to the already impressive Enzo Ferrari Model, the company said . Ferrari will organise a series of 14 track events for FXX owners at international-level circuits over the coming two years in Europe, North America and Japan, including the Ferrari World Finals. On hand at these events will be an official team of Ferrari technicians to provide any assistance and support to the Client Test Drivers. The Eyes on Design event benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO), a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1972 . The awards program is an extension of the Eyes on Design Auto Exhibit organized each year by the DIO to celebrate the world of automotive design . It is also DIO's primary source of revenues for the research, education and support group programs which enhance the independence of the visually impaired . ANSA

Su Eurosport hanno detto che Caldecott aveva preso una penalizazione prima del incidente e che sicuramente viaggiava vicino al limite di 160km/h ....ieri hanno anche fatto vedere la storia di Caldecott , deprimente al massimo. Il GPS funziona solo quando sei almeno a 3km dei punti di controlo , fino a la deve andare sensa GPS.

DaimlerChrysler hires bank to filter Smart bids Automotive News / January 9, 2006 - 6:00 am LONDON (Reuters) -- DaimlerChrysler has hired Goldman Sachs to screen approaches for Smart, its loss-making small-car unit, the Financial Times reported on Monday. Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said he hoped to turn round the Smart business, but confirmed Goldman had been appointed to filter unsolicited approaches from potential buyers or partners, according to the report. "As long as we are working on Plan A we don't need to talk about Plan B," he said in an interview with the British newspaper. "I definitely support the team (at Smart) in its confidence." Citing unnamed investment bankers, the newspaper said Goldman had actively approached investment banks to gauge potential interest from investors who specialize in troubled companies. Zetsche told the newspaper the company would consider partnerships between Smart and other groups. "Any potential opportunities of co-operation will not be ruled out," he said. The company said on Sunday that Smart reached its sales target in 2005 and its new business model was on track. It said sales at the mini-car brand rose 2.4 percent to 143,000 units, the seventh consecutive year of sales gains.

Io credo che che il design 'e stato fatto con intenzione di essere il piú possibile efficace aerodinamicamente, quando dite che 'e troppo aggressiva , secondo me 'e solo una conseguenza di avere una macchina che pesa 1600kg com 600cv e per questo la aerodinamica diventa una priorita ! insomma o detto quello che a detto prima omphalos. Non 'e cosi come dici la avventura c'e' ancora... mi sembra che voi in italia siete messi un puo male perche le tv non 'e che parlano molto del Dakar... Io vedo sempre su Eurosport fanno vedere la competizione e la aventura... Per troppo per i motocicliste e sempre molto pericoloso.

How can you design a car in one year? The design department at Fiat is a small group. We don't have any committees, so there's no reason for us to take 24 to 36 months to develop a car. If a company is taking that long, it probably means communications are not working well, there are a lot of revisions going on, and you don't have the right team with the right vision.
