For Giulia and Stelvio most likely 2.0 turbo PHEV. Or how else they can hit 4.5 seconds 0-100 km/h time? Don't forget that for Alfa Romeo electrification will be associated with performance. At least for RWD based Alfa models.

Q3 is a on MQB A2 platform. I thought hat on MQB A2 they offer only multilink for a rear suspension. But in any case some forum members are applying double standards. One for German car makers and more rigorous for FCA Rear McPherson for every version of Compass just as on 147. But already 500X and Renegade have used rear McPherson.

Pietro Gorlier described Alfa Romeo compact SUV as a product which will be first application for a new platform. Of course it's most likely a Small Wide platform evolution. It's good to use because in that case PHEV arhitecture is shared but also a next generation Renegade and Compass can use that platform. Industrialization will be cheaper and quicker.

Small Wide with a GME T4 as largest engine vs. CUSW with a V6 Pentastar as a largest engine. Just check front overhang dimensions of some cars on these 2 platforms.

From what I've heard it was always Torino R&D center which was responsible for development of a Small Wide platform including Jeep products. In my opinion it's a proper platform for a compact cars in Europe because of excellent packaging and doesn't have a burden of keeping a V6 engine option. That results in better proportions with much shorter front overhang. For CUSW most of development was done in Auburn Hills.

Because already Compass offers similar space on rear bench as Stelvio. Because if you shorten a wheelbase and rear overhang you will end up with tiny luggage capacity and knee room for a small children at the rear bench. Americans and Chinese can tolerate wet dual clutch. FCA has a patent for one but there is no one in production.

So finally most of us accepted a fact that future Alfa Romeo SUV with use a Small Wide or evolution of a Small Wide platform. And please do not call it SUSW. The name is Small Wide without US. CUSW bears US moniker and thanks God they will abandon it. Who needs transverse V6 and long snout? Now we can talk what can be done to bring a Small Wide platform to a level which is acceptable for an Alfa Romeo. In my opinion passenger space especially on rear seats is very generous. So I don't think that wheelbase should be elongated. Driving dynamics must be improved. In the first place changing a front suspension material to aluminium would help. Car would be more lively and would get a better feeling which can be further improved by different electric steering assist and programming. The majos drawback for Compass is luggage capacity. Partly it's small due to use of McPherson rear suspension. That can be improved with use of simple two and a half link read suspension. Also they can use longer rear overhang. No doubt that platform itself will be improved. It will be more rigid. Maybe with less wight body in white. Weight could be reduced with usage of aluminium for doors and fenders. Although I don't expect this for compact SUV and this is not platform related. There is a place for improvement in AWD system. Currently Small Wide cars are using GKN developed system with axle disconnect. Surely it helps with a fuel economy but it's nothing special. They can use more advanced GKN Twister which includes Torque Vectoring (TV) rear differential. Handling can be further improved with offering a front Limited Slip Differential (LSD) as an option. Engine options are obvius. 1.3 GSE as a base engine in Europe, than 2.0 GME with 200+ HP and a 2.0 GME 350+ HP with eBooster as a engine offering for a Quadrifoglio model. PHEV will most likely offer a 1.3 GSE with e-axle with total of around 250 HP. Is a 1.5 GSE under development? IMO that could be a base engine in US if it offers just north of 200 HP with a healthy torque delivery. For Europe I'm expecting 2.2 liter diesel under Euro 6D For me the biggest question is a transmission choice. Even in Europe automatic transmission is a preferred choice so I do not expect automatic except maybe for a base engine. ZF now offers a 2nd generation of 9HP capable for up to 500 Nm of torque. Also it can offer a module for P2 MHEV or PHEV which is not available with a current version. But is it suitable for Alfa Romeo? Maybe FCA is still working on a wet clutch DCT. This new iteration could be the last development of any FCA FWD platform with impeding electrification and switch to a BEV. So I see this as a some sort of a swansong.

The call was made. Next all new Alfa will be based on Small Wide platform and it will offer a P1P4 PHEV system very similar or identical to one which will end up under Renegade and Compass. The question is. In which way they can and what will be improved to make this product worthy of a Alfa Romeo name? I doubt tat a product which will hit the market in late 2020 will share everything with a Jeep which was launched in early 2017.

Yes and it seems that Alfa has won. Actually Small Wide based Alfa has won. And you can remember when I said that some tooling in Pomigliano is identical or similar as in Melfi. That lead to a suspension that at Small Wide based product is in the plans for Pomigliano. Although I must say that keeping Panda there has surprised me, 13 new models or restyles in 2019-2021 timeframe for Italy. They said it explicitly. So maybe we should include Maserati, some other models or maybe FCA is counting different than me. Maybe they re counting PHEV as a separate model. Dunno.
-
They said 13 new models or facelifts Made in Italy in 2019-2021? They also said it's only for Fiat, Alfa and Jeep? At least that has been written in an official press release by FCA. New electric Fiat 500 Jeep Compass including PHEV Alfa compact SUV including PHEV Panda MHEV Stelvio PHEV with facelift Giulia PHEV with facelift Ducato facelift That's just 7 with 6 more missing. So maybe they are counting models and facelifts in a different way or we should include Maserati into sum.

FCA is working on expansion of JNAP facility. One option is to expand on nearby engine complex.

PSA-Toyota: Addio a C1/108/Aygo

A segment is near of extinction. And it's not much popular outside of Italy. They are some exceptions like Fiat 500 who is some form of a fashion car and even a status symbol for some.
